GUWAHATI: In a joint operation by Army and Assam police, a dreaded area commander of Karbi Peoples’ Liberation Tigers (KPLT) identified as Seme Kro today was gunned down in a fierce gun battle near Bhelughat area in Karbi Anglong district.
Following a tip off on movement of the KPLT ultra near Bhelughat area, the joint team launched the operation last night. The party established ambushes in the general area and in the ensuing fire fight Seme Kro self-styled KPLT area commander of Bhelughat area got killed.
The security forces have also recovered one7.65mm pistol with magazine, one live round of ammunition and other incriminatory documents from the spot.
In a separate operation, troops of Army and Assam Police apprehended one National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA) terrorist last night from Silaimatha in Kokrajhar district. The terrorist was identified as Sarkar Hasda. One 7.65 mm factory made pistol and live ammunition has been recovered from the terrorist.
Army sources said that Hasda is a close associate of Sakai (Area Commander of NSLA in Parbatjhora) and Lakhiram (Commander-in-Chief of NSLA). The terrorist has been involved in antisocial activities with the terrorist group.
