Ashok Leyland has announced that it has bagged a $6 million order to supply 50 vestibule buses to the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).

The Hinduja group company said the order has been bagged under the Indian Line of Credit scheme offered for the improvement of urban transportation in Bangladesh.

The BRTC order is the first overseas order for Ashok Leyland for such buses. An agreement was signed by BRTC chairman and Ashok Leyland special director-International Operations Antony Lobo.

Commenting on the order, Vinod K. Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland, said: "This represents an important step towards achieving our vision to be globally among the top-10 truck and top-five bus manufacturers. We were the first to introduce vestibule buses in India and now are excited about introducing this vehicle in Bangladesh. The agreement will help take urban transportation there to a new level in partnership with BRTC with whom we share a long and mutually beneficial relationship."

Over the years, the company has exported more than 9,500 vehicles (of different models) to Bangladesh through their sole dealer, Ifad Autos Ltd.

Last year, Ashok Leyland bagged the single largest order for 290 double-decker buses worth $23.3 million from Bangladesh, which was one of the contributory factors in boosting the company's exports to 12,852 vehicles, reflecting a growth of 25 per cent.

Only 50 ????

Last year, Ashok Leyland bagged the single largest order for 290 double-decker buses worth $23.3 million.

Besides BD is procuring more than 4000 buses for Dhaka city. So keep them coming

yaar there are too many buses now a days on Uttara-Motijheel route..

Chinese buses korean daweoo AC bus Indian tata buses all run through this route............ Good i dont have to wait anymore.. not more than two minutes on ticket counters.... previously it used to take more than 30 minute......

Those buses are long and can carry more people than normal buses... That pic above is a bus used in chennai, i have travelled many times in it.. Its suitable for curved roads...

In kerala, trivandrum, accidents involving ashok leyland vestibule buses and two wheelers are now frequent.
The blame is mainly on careless drivers of Kerala Road Transport Corporation. In these buses the engine is on the back, so there is practically no sound when they are coming from behind. Since the drivers won't blow their horns especialy in highways, the usually knock down two wheelers, mostly in small turns.
Some also blame the unscientific make of the bus bodies(this can't be confirmed;waiting for the report by RTO)
