Around 60 killed as drug gangs clash in Brazil prison massacre

I guess the big question is what percentage of the population are living in the "good life" areas?

I guess that the huge majority of the european (descendants of german, italian, british, polish, ukrainian, portugese, spanish etc settlers), middle eastern (syrian and lebanese) and asian ( japanese, chinese) immigrants live a comfortable live there. Not really sure about the black, pardo and mestizo population but we can for sure say that half of the people ( that’s around 100 million) live better and safer lives than the other half.

asian ( japanese, chinese) immigrants live a comfortable live there..

Any idea if the majority of the population from Asia is mostly from immigration from the last 25 years or is it simply remnants of Spanish importing slaves. I say this because the typical liberal excuse as to why certain demographics don't do well in a country is because if they have had a history of slavery then they can't ever "step up" due to unresolvable ingrained discrimination. However if the asians are doing well in Brazil and they have a history there of being slaves then this negates that assertion.

As I know for the Japanese they started migrating to Brazil (and Peru in a smaller scale) in the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. After that waves of Japanese people followed after World War II and now the Japanese and their descendants in Brazil are between a million and a million and a half. Like many of the people who chose Brazil it was the agricultural potential of the country that attracted them. After that they built a good life for themselves like most other migrants to the country.

ps Brazil was a Portuguese colony not a spanish one and slave trade was prohibited in 1850 with slavery abolished in 1888. It was black people who were used as slaves again though... who are again the poorest etc in Brazil.
