A Pakistani American girl I know, born and raised in the US by practicing Muslims parents (not Hijab or Burqa types) is a raging liberal who smokes pot, dropped out of medical school to become a teacher and supports a complete de-funding of police with 'communities stepping up to look out for each other' and 'greater social services'.

In some ways, her views about de-funding and disbanding police in the US remind me of Pakistan's woke liberal/leftist elite that want to de-fund, if not completely disband, Pakistan's military and have this Utopian idea of a 'global nation that would just get along in peace if given the chance'.

What do you think the protests in the US currently are about? It's about the divergence in views of two different sets of people in the US. Conservatives in the US would love to outlaw homosexuality, pre-marital sex etc. That doesn't mean they or liberals get told to 'leave the country'.

Pakistani Americans or Muslim Americans are not monolithic in their views, but they are entitled to them as much as anyone else. They are also entitled to advocate for changes in the country they live in through constitutional mechanisms allowed to them.

This canard of 'go back to where you came from' is in fact one of the most un-American things said so far, and it's not a surprise that Sanghis love saying this just as much as the rabid, intolerant, right wing Trump supporters in the US.

And like I said, it is the right of every individual in the US to hold whatever views they want and advocate for those views through constitutional means. The US Supreme Court allowed private businesses to refuse to serve people (such as people from the LGBTQ community) and not offer birth control/contraceptive coverage if it goes against their religious beliefs, so why single out just Muslim Americans or Pakistani Americans for your diatribe?
