What's new

Army's ammunition won't last 20 days of war

so Pakistan and Bangladesh only need to fight a defensive war for 20-30 days, and then move into India :o:

.
Say what you will about DRDO, but they managed to lift this program off the ground.

hint! *80000+ anti tank rounds were discarded... search on google

couldn't find it.plus,do you know about detailed reports why it was discarded and such??

plus,do you even know the annual production amount of HEAT,HESH and APFSDS rounds??its well over 2 hundred thousands per annum..plus,the term "defective",probably you don't know about what kind of defects it was(even if any of such thing ever happened).years back, one barrel burst of T-72 tank showed its low quality of barrels which came from Russia couldn't hold the pressure as well as the temparature.IA has to replace a lot of ammunition for that just to suit those tanks.

you're probably talking about this one.......................

This ordnance shortage was also triggered by the destruction 2003 onwards of 150,000-200,000 T 72M1 AMK340 rounds worth around Rs 7 billion due to a combination of defective manufacturing and negligence in storing. The AMK-340s semi-combustible cartridge case that is filled with triple–base propellant, was found to have inadequate packing between the layers to prevent leakage in high storage temperatures, often under the open sun without even overhead protection, rendering it unsafe.

this too,a news from a decade ago.but again, nothing which is completely unusual..they attributed the blame to the defects relating design,DRDO work.not OFB.

Actually the OFB HAP is the sole agency to be blamed for this.ARDE had nothing to do with this fu*k up

So mighty India can't survive war for 20 days WOW just imagine if they get two face two front war
we dont need to fight for even 20 days to defeat pakistan, besides, if India can spend $20 billion at a time to buy aircrafts then it is foolish to assume that we cant replenish our ammo reserves

.
I don't believe it. First lets have war & chk for 20 days.............

No need. Supa Powa India can finish off Pakistan in 1 minute, China in 2 minutes and Bangladesh in 30 seconds. It is a Supa Powa unseen or unheard of previously.

Well said well said... please tell other warriors of Pakistan also....

Does it matter? Even if the Indian army were to disband altogether, India's nuclear forces would still be able to deter any threat of invasion. Same goes for Pakistan and China.

This is the point to be noted both sides of the border... very realistic reply...

No matter how much we kill each other, you still won't be able to extract the revenge of what Muslims did to your people
Why we need to extract revenge... Karma is Bitch... God will ensure that revenge is extracted through an unexpected source (your own fellows)... we just need to keep maintaining safe distance and see the drama...which we are doing....

Night-vision devices for Indian Army approved
Tuesday, April 2, 2013 - 20:58

New Delhi: The Defence Ministry today approved a Rs 2,820 crore proposal to provide night-vision devices to the Army to enable its tanks and infantry combat vehicles to have capability to fight in both day and night conditions.

A meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister A K Antony also approved proposals to upgrade the 130 mm artillery guns of the Army along with amendments in procurement procedure to boost indigenisation in defence production, Defence Ministry sources said here.

Under the plans to do away with the night blindness of Army`s mechanised fleet including the Russian-origin T-90 and T-72 tanks and the BMP Infantry Combat Vehicles (ICV), around 5,000 thermal imaging sights would be procured from defence PSU Bharat Electronics limited, they said.

For the T-72, which are the main stay of the Indian Army, 2,000 pieces of TI sights would be procured for Rs 1,000 crore while 1,200 pieces would be bought for the T-90 Main Battle Tanks for Rs 960 crore.

1,780 pieces of TI sights would be inducted for the BMP Infantry Combat Vehicles for Rs 860 crore, they said.

Admitting and correcting flaws are better than hiding it..

Sorry mate, the reality is scary for you really... things that should have been taken care of from the initial procurement stage, just dont seem to occur in Indian procurements....

whats worse, the tank shells (penetrators) are NOT interchangeable between T-72 and T-90s despite they both use the same gun. The trouble lays with FCS of t-90 as it cannot fire the more modern AMK-340A rounds. Did i just say "modern"? the round barely penetrates 480mm rolled armour at 2000 meters but, as per IA, it is ;)

T 90 uses a different gun than the T 72M1!!Guns are not same, the T 90s are equipped with the 2A46M2 while the T 72M1s are equipped with the 2A46M,its shorter version is used on board your AKs.

They are of the same technology, the M series is an incremental improvement over 2a46-2 initially used in T-80B.

more importantly, they both have same breech dimensions, the only difference is in metallurgy which the latter has.

There is no excuse for t-72 not able to fire the same rounds the t-90 does, none at all.

for e.g., all apfsds made in pakistan are interchangeable between alzarrar, alkhalid, type-85III and T-80ud, despite they all have vastly different guns with varying metallurgy and other parameters.

actually it was more than just propellant, it was an "innovation" on OFB's part to mix the Israeli rod with russian propellant, the result was a disaster.

the situation stands as it was till today, thats why MOD ordered 66000 bm-42 mangoes and 15000-20000 invar ATGM rounds, whats is worse, the old BM-42s are now bought at 400% above the original price, are to be used by both t-72 and t-90 because acquiring newer round is not feasible as it is not be compatible with both tanks, t-90 may fire it, not the t-72.
