Army To Test Improved Nag Missile Carrier In July

namica.jpg

A significantly improved tracked Nag Missile Carrier (NAMICA) is up for user trials in July. The Army had asked for the following changes to be made to the NAMICA platform:

1. Reduction of all-up weight to 15 tons.
2. Improved reliability of missile launcher platform drive mechanisms.
3. Provision of higher-resolution target acquisition sight for the gunner.
4. Enhanced user-friendliness in acquisition of target through reduced offset between sight and missile seeker-acquired target scene image.
5. Improved amphibious performance.
6. Provision of a Target Surveillance and Acquisition Sight for the crew commander.

Javelin is a fire and forget Man portable ATGM

While NAG is a vehicle based ATGM , like Lahat
While Helina is a Helicopter based ATGM like Hellfire

both nag and Javelin are 3rd gen fire ad forget ATGM. Nag carried by NAMICA and ALH, LCH whiLE Javelin is man portable. Javelin has 2.5 km range while has Nag HAS 4 KM RANGE.

The BMP 2 is a soft skinned death trap that has no business being on the modern battlefield.

Its time the BMP's were replaced with a vehicle that can take machine gun and RPG fire without turning into a massive fireball.

The fact is the BMP base vehicle is irrelevant, it's the mounting body that is important, if the NAMICA can be fired from the BMP it can be fitted to any future ICV of IA's. It's like saying you don't like the TATRA being the vehicle the Bhramos is mounted on- it makes no difference because that can be changed at any point it is the turret that is the key.

I hope the actual NAMICA is able to carry more missile because there is no point in having a separate vehicle just to carry 2 missiles....all BMP2 after their upgrade will carry 2 ATGMs.

This is from the private company L&T btw.

regular NAG carrier has 8 missiles.
The upgraded NAMICA that article is talking about is this LnT one only....Now IA will test this new LnT NAMICA (upgraded version) and then i think either IA will test both version together or just evaluate the field trial report of both versions.

The reason for the upgrade was because it doesn't have a panoramic view.
Actually it has a panoramic sight...IA wanted a better quality sight with extended range (new one has a range of 8km) and 2 more extra sights...one sight specifically for gunner.

posible new NAMICA, note the new 'raisable mast-mounted panoramic optronic suite for target acquisition'.

Probably not. It has AACAR written on it. Should it not be some anti aircraft vehicle?

Ya, it does go up a little bit.

But no such anti-aircraft vehicle planned....also like i said before, a vessel specifically to carry two small missiles is useless...
