Army takes a step back in Ladakh

The army has stopped patrolling the eastern Ladakh areas beyond the site where Chinese troops have taken up positions — 19km into Indian territory — to avoid escalating the stand-off.Prior to the Chinese incursion of April 15 soldiers would carry out weekly surveillance on foot, according to army sources. It is not clear when Indian troops last patrolled the area before Chinese pitched tents and set up a base in the Daulat Beg Oldie sector, bringing matters to a head between the two countries.

It is understood that the government may have advised the army not to comb the sector so that diplomatic efforts are not hampered.
“As of now, there are no plans to launch patrols behind the Chinese positions. Patrolling right up to our perception of the line of actual control may be seen as provocative,” a source said.

Launching armed patrols from other directions beyond the faceoff site is likely to send out a message that the Indian Army plans to cut off the supply lines of the Chinese troops — one of the options that army has suggested to the government to counter the Chinese aggression.

Army chief General Bikram Singh had on Wednesday briefed the government on the ground situation.

The chief gave the government a slew of options to deal with the Chinese incursion, including a proposal to increase troop levels.

Three brigadier-level flag meetings between the two sides have failed to find a solution to the end the 17-day impasse.

There’s growing suspicion within the military establishment that the intruding Chinese soldiers will hold on to the Indian territory for quite some time, if not permanently.

China has a tendency to ratchet up the border dispute at frequent intervals, especially before important high-level visits. The latest incursion is timed weeks ahead of Chinese premier Li Keqiang’s upcoming visit to India.

Can China keep this land for longer to increase weight in negotiations over other disputed territory with India? But this territory is not Indian to begin with... I wonder how Kashmiris would react to this development.

So there you have it. Indian kashmiris are outraged at the chinese incursion into their land, and are complaining to the INDIAN govt, and urging the INDIAN govt to take action. That should tell you where their loyalties lie.

If you don't know China has invests billions of dollars in India in infrastructure development
Second they are getting billions of dollars of trade per year
Continuous "HOT ENVIRONMENT " will spoil that for them like what happened in Japan. China is a production driven economy they can't continue loosing market after market.

They can't afford to spoil public option about them for long. This is the first time after 62 the sentiment is that high against China. Government can't ignore that when elections are few months ago.

Its simple. Army agreed to goverment that they wont patroll near the disputed land till talks going on between goverments.... And if talks fails army will do their own way. Army is really annoyed because when pakistani soldiers beheaded indian soldiers than goverment warned indian army to not reply back because congress busy looting india and it would effect the corruption. Trust me that indian army will move ahead if they see goverment not intrested.... Army wont patroll for 2 weeks but than they will take charge. Meanwhile its good time to make move secret weapons near border. pleiadians mentioned india has chemical weapons large stock near indo-china border and america confirmed it.... india declared it destroyed 75percent of its chemical stockpile but CNN ibn busted indian army lie by showing proof that india moved large stock pile of chemical weapon on indo-china border.... indian army will take charge. i wish they in a war bombard sonia gandhi and parliment too so this idiots wont poke its nose in india's security....

Dude indian bro indian goverment can nail down this provocative action but they all r old ages to think any anctionto take... Second stop doing business with china which simply cannt be handle by thwm beco they doing multi billion businesa with ondia after us n japan

Not possible. Indians can't live without chinese goods, just like the Chinese can't live without the money those goods fetch.

Every Indian typing posting here uses computers who's parts are made in China. Indians cannot live without mobile phones, computers and many other things that China sells in India. (EVERY brand, even japanese or american ones, have chinese parts in them.)

And other than electronics, there are many other goods that Indians depend on China for. We can't afford to not do business with China. They are too big today for any country to cut business ties with them.

The issue will have to be solved diplomatically, or with military action. But even then, both countries will keep doing business. Trade is too important to be cut off, and both countries know that.
