Army orders ALCOTAN Shoulder Fired Anti Tank Weapon System

Singapore replaced its Saab Carl Gustaf launchers with the Rafael Spike SR.

Rafael Spike SR (Israel)

Uncooled yet accurate heat seeker. This will have huge applications in WVR air combat as well. This technology will be a game changer. @wanglaokan

Still little information about system how can u compare it with Spike and javelian systems

.
I'm guessing a good deal as an urgent operational requirement maybe. Good to give the guys on the ground a bunker busting capability.

.
  • 600 m effective range and >1.000 m against area targets
  • VOSEL (M2) firing control unit automatically shows the future aiming point correction against moving targets
  • Extremely high Single Shot Hit Probability (SSHP)
  • No recoil <4 J
  • Confined Space firing capability
  • Night vision integrated in VOSEL (M2) firing control unit

Looks like a good, simple and effective system to be introduced into the PA. It's an unguided RL with a fire control system that predicts shooting point according to the range, speed and angle of the tgt in question.
Would make first hit a high probability rather than an intelligent guess as compared to the RPGs.
Cannot be compared to Javelian or Spike.

.
A very effective system and as per some comments ot seems we will be making more of these rockets in Pakistan. An extremely effective system against enemey's fixed posts and mobile targets.

It should not be compared with Spike or Javelian as they are both IR guided missiles while this one is a rocket system. However it come with a fire control/targetting system that makes for high precision attacks with this rocket.

Is it like RPG if it is the case can it penetrate latest survivability kit in new tanks like merkava and Abram or leopard

The alcotan can predict its victim positio so does it work along the same principle as that of the javelin atgm???

It is quite good actually. Reportedly it can penetrate 700mm+ of steel and ERA armor. Also it can fire three different types of munition like HEAT (anti-tank), HE/FRAG (anti personal/bunker), HEDP (dual purpose)

@The Eagle @waz @Slav Defence can you please merge the two threads?

ALCOTAN procurement package (US$25 million) remains a very expensive system especially with the discarded rocket casings which can only come from INSTALAZA the Spanish manufacturer. Pakistan Armed Forces are very well trained in the doctrine of using one or multiple RPG-7s to defeat any kind of targets on the battlefield. Couple the RPG-7s (or upgrade to RPG 29 or 32) and put a Belarus PD-7 ballistic tracking sight on it and you will have lethal combination without any considerable dent in Army's budget.

In addition, perhaps develop an RPG-7 compatible munition that can provide overfly top attack (OTA) capability. Once its placed into the RPG-7, the user can switch to the correct system profile on the PD-7 and set the OTA trigger. Besides seamlessly and affordably supporting local needs, such a munition can be exported in competition to the Alcotan 100, Saab NLAW, etc.

That is a strange procurement plan, so the rocket can be made in Pakistan but the casing will come from Spain? Interesting.

I don't think such a solution would be cheaper; developing electronics and sensors required to make such a platform work - might aswell develop a new platform and not be limited to RPG-7 constraints..

Even so, a locally built single-shot system - especially with OTA capability - would be much cheaper to procure than imports from Sweden or Spain. It remains to be seen if the Alcotan 100 accompanies a proper ToT deal, but sadly this doesn't seem to be the case...
