Army orders ALCOTAN Shoulder Fired Anti Tank Weapon System

Even so, a locally built single-shot system - especially with OTA capability - would be much cheaper to procure than imports from Sweden or Spain. It remains to be seen if the Alcotan 100 accompanies a proper ToT deal, but sadly this doesn't seem to be the case...

I don't quite understand Pakistani procurement methods, it seems not to best serve Pakistan in the long run..

That is a strange procurement plan, so the rocket can be made in Pakistan but the casing will come from Spain? Interesting.

The resin-made casing comes sealed with rockets from Instalaza. So far no plans afoot with any organization in Pakistan to make the rockets and casing locally. So every time an Army man fires an ALCOTAN sealed rocket he makes the seller (read the superseded Major General) happy to sell a few more to the Army later. Its like the FN P90 whomse 5.7mm ammunition is ONLY made by FN Herstal and no one else

I said a private Pakistani company is offering to produce them if our guys go for it in large numbers.

PRIVATELY OWNED companies in Pakistan are not authorized to produce or manufacture rockets and explosives. This is only mandated to Government or Semi Government entities

Several private companies actually make "bombs" and explosives and sell to the military.

DSA for examples even makes bomb fuzes and MK 80 bombs , apart from AGLs and other weapons..

Pak metal works and engineering pvt ltd is the company that's offering to produce these rocket launchers and URO high mobility vehicle in a JV with their Spanish partners.

'Several' is a wrong statement.

I know Daudsons and have visited their factory in Peshawar. They only make shells of the bombs for PAF and not the explosives etc.

This Pak Metal company that has sold the Alcotan is not licensed to make explosives or rockets and it would not be possible for them to do so otherwise.

Nice Try Though!

Belarus revealed this nifty system called the PD-7. It's basically a smart sight like the VOSEL (M2) with a laser rangefinder and ballistic computer, which calculates an aim-point using information of the munition and the combat area's environment (e.g. wind speed, temperature, etc). But here's the thing ... it only weighs 2 kg and it's for the RPG-7!! @Arsalan @CriticalThought

I have today received news that the Belarus company has offered the said sight for RPG-7 recently. If they have then this would perhaps be the most positive and best force multiplier to have with the extensive use of RPG-7 in our forces.

Excellent. All they need to do is ensure that POF's RPG rounds are registered into the PD-7's ballistic computer. The Belarusian company has six default munitions listed in the library, but I imagine the specifications need to match 100% in order to make full use of the targeting and future aim-point capabilities.

It most probably will be updated to register our munitions. Considering the usage of RPG in our forces, the numbers and how they are likely to stay here in future as well will mean that this sight system will be a procurement for decade to come, there wont be such lapses hopefully.

This will serve us pretty well for sure.

BTW @Zarvan so have you though about the reasons i asked you to think about?
WHY would all those countries be investing millions of dollars in disposable systems? Why do you think they do that? Can you understand any reason yet or not?

The PD-7 sight is designed for ALL types of RPG-7 ammunition. So catering for POF made rockets would not be an issue. The other good thing is that this sighting system comes with a night vision attachment as well both in Image Intensification and Thermal technology. So amazingly it will give the RPG-7 the ability to be used at night as well which currently is not even offered in ALCOTAN or any other shoulder fired unguided rocket system. I sure hope Army is wise enough to get this sight inducted ASAP & on priority!
