Army offers to assist govt on PM’s Housing plan

Roof over your head is a right. Private sector has failed and its criminal land grabbing enterprise aligned with political parties, Bahria Town with Zardari for example offering nothing but overpriced housing for the elite.

Yes We dont need slums. #NoSlumsInPak
It's my view that no civilized society can have it's disadvantage sleeping on the streets. One of the reasons I have zero respect for India despite the big talk of success is India is world famous for having the largest homeless/slum population on earth. We don't need that in Pakistan.

Further, it acually does not need nuclear science, space age technology to provide housing to the poor. All the ingredients are there in Pakistan. All it needs is large scale public mobilization that only governments can inspire. Take Rawalpindi. The government can allocate certain amount of land by compulsory purchase or using state land. The land then can be used to build mass housing estates.

My dad told me he saw this was done by Pakistan Army under President Ayub Khan in 1960s Karachi when large estates were built for homeless refugees from India. Perhaps those from Karachi can shed some light?

Cheap housing is readily available 'if' there is a will! The chinese are constructing cheap housing in matter of days using giant 3d printers. Even Ukraine is now doing the same.

People who came from india were still living in camps and it was Ayub that gave them a roof over their head. sadly no one since has done anything like what he had done. There is a video of it on youtube if you want to dig it up.

My argument is its better to start new cities because Pakistan has vast amount of land that can be used to establish new towns and cities. Old towns and cities don't have the capacity.

This is what I love about the present government. Simple basic things that count. Housing, cleanliness, water, education, police reforms, green Pakistan, tree plantation, jobs for working class. You know this could be straight out of Labour Party manifesto in UK or Sweden.

And much as I disagree with political Islam but I can see that Islam is being leveraged here as force for good. This reminds me how Erdogan has used Islam to help galvanize the poor and set Turkey on the road to development.

By the way Indian's will always struggle to achieve egalitarianism. Hindooism is a casteist, superiorty ridden way of life. Islamic notion of equality is what drives the Pakistani urge to help the poor and disadvantaged.

I can see the reason behind your jealousy, micro organisms *

P:S: this sanghi is a lair.

my jealousy is because of imran khans 'good looks'...... and PA skill in making houses. If I remember correctly, North Korean army too build houses. Lucky north korea.

FWO is in process of raising funds for a cement plant that will have a capacity of 7500 TPD. Total project financing req is around 220 M USD.

It will commence operations after 3-4 years. Most of the capacity will be used by FWO itself. The rest will be sold in market.

Ab faltu cement aur nafri kaheen to lagani hai.

I am an army brat ( grown up now) but I think that army should stay out of it.

Corruption surfaces wherever there is military and civilian interaction. We have seen it in FC, NLC, procurement/CMA Dp and some other projects where some officers up to 3 star level were involved.

PA needs to stay out of it or have the whole prospective project be constructed via an SPV with ind auditors from all the big 4 firms.

I see that you have ended every post in this thread with a swipe at us Hindoos. I am reminded of the great Senator Cato who ended every speech with the line "Delenda est Cartago" irrespective of whether poor Carthage had anything to do with the matter....

Much respect to have such a learned chap as yourself posting here. Yes it is true that Indian 'slumdogs' are as much sine qua non in any disccussion on Pakistani forum as 'terroristan' is in any Indian forum.

if every thing is done by army

  • Army
  • police
  • navy
  • courts
  • FBR
  • FIA
  • IB
  • Foreign Office
etc

The way you talk is as if army is a separate entity. The army is just another organ of the state like police, tax office, NADRA etc and falls under the Ministry of Defence. What next? are you going to ask why police or FBR are being asked to do something by the government?

already there is burden on army.tell me in which good country army develops houses.it is not job of army, police or fbr.it is job of ministry of housing and works and civil govt officials.they are given huge salaries for this purpose

If they have excess capacity it'd be a good idea, but i think the state should make it's own capability to build these houses. We should try to make them as cheap as possible by not making it a private venture entirely.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army offered on Thursday to assist the federal government in implementing its ambitious Prime Minister’s Housing Programme aimed at building five million residential units for lower- and middle-income segments of society.

The offer was made during a meeting of the taskforce on housing chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan here.

Army’s representatives gave a detailed presentation to the PM and members of the taskforce on its experience in building low-cost housing units for its personnel.

“Lt-Gen Moazzam Ajaz, the Quarter-Master General, made a detailed presentation on army’s experience in catering to housing needs of its personnel. He also offered Army’s … assistance in implementing the five million housing project,” read a statement issued by the PM office after the meeting.

The PM, it was decided, would formally launch this project in the first half of next month and the process of registration would also commence soon after the project’s launch.

The meeting was informed that an apex body would be created to ensure the project’s seamless execution.

NBP keen to offer subsidised loans for PM’s low-cost housing scheme

The Prime Minister said that besides utilizing expertise of both the public and the private sectors, successful financial models, including that of Akhuwwat, would be replicated to ensure success and affordability.

The Prime Minister directed the task force to quickly finalise the plan in this regard, including a legislative framework for consideration by the provincial and the federal governments.

The PM was informed that a comprehensive housing policy framework was being developed for offering one-window solution to local as well as foreign investors.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Punjab’s housing minister Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, MNA Najeeb Haroon, Quarter-Master General (QMG) Lt-Gen Moazzam Ajaz, DG Army (Lands) Maj-General Naveed Safdar, Secretary Housing Dr Imran Zeb Khan and Saleem Ranjha of the Akhuwwat Foundation.
