Army major shoots dead Iesco linesman

ISLAMABAD: A serving officer of Pakistan Army, Major Raja Zahid, on Wednesday gunned down a Wapda employee over a minor verbal spat after the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) linesman asked him for the copy of the paid electricity bill.

Major Raja Zahid not only murdered the poor linesman in the posh area of DHA Phase-II but also dumped his body in Gujar Khan. In a broad daylight at about 1230 hrs, according to Islamabad Police, Maj Raja Zahid (PA-35118, 153Pnr Bn NLC Sibi) shot dead Iesco linesman, Mehboob Ahmad, when the latter visited the home of the former in DHA, Islamabad Phase-II, Sector B to disconnect the electricity connection on account of non-payment of bill. The Pak Army officer exchanged harsh words with Mehboob Ahmad and alleged that Iesco was sending him wrong bills in the past. The army officer pulled out his pistol and shot him dead. According to police sources, later Major Raja Zahid took the body to Gujar Khan and dumped it there. The police recovered the body and arrested the army officer and his brother-in-law who were present at the crime scene. Islamabad Police say that further investigations are underway and the accused would be dealt with as per law. The heirs of the deceased and Iesco employees staged a demonstration against the people responsible.

Since the murder was committed in a civilian locale, it falls under the jurisdiction of the local police station and they thus have authority to arrest him. He will then be handed after paper work to the military police.

Justice must be done and done swiftly, no one can be allowed to consider themselves beyond the approach of the law and especially not someone who wears the uniform and is under oath. This man's punishment should be exemplary.

Police could be arrest and later handover to MP.

Definitely he should be court martialed and then let the army decide what should happen to him . Stupid people like him ruin the name of the army nowadays .

Agreed, the case falls under the purview of the civilian court. But why should he be handed over to military court? When the incident took place Major was not on Active duty & it is not related to national security or disobeying of order. How is this different from any other civilian criminal offence?

Major should face capital punishment

Let us see what punishment he gets, and when, and by whom.

Normally such matter is handed to civilian courts
Murder and attempt to conceal the crime should carry maximum possible punishment
From army he should get dishonourable discharge
I have seen one drumming out occasion

I think no ones kills a person for electricity bill , they both must have hit each other and abused each other then the major shot him .
