They've got a pretty decent safety record in the region but the Mils lack many basic safety features that Western (and Indian) helos now have so aren't are safe as they should/could be.

Do we know if this was part of any recovery operation on-going in Gyari Sector. This be a problem then cuz in such operations there is sometime a lack of Maintenance / Pilot Fatigue that can result in such incidents. Was this the one procured from Ukraine ... BTW what is teh current number of helicopters.... I have never seen so many failures in a single year.. We need no rule out Sabotage or any new Maintenance technique.. I think we had

1 Mi-17 , 1 Aluoette and 2 Puma downed so far...

ISPR Press Release on Yesterdays Heli Crash

Namaz-e-Janaza of six shuhada of yesterday Helicopter crash at Skardu was offered at Qasim Army Aviation Base Rawalpindi today.

An MI - 17 Helicopter was crashed near Skardu Airport yesterday, during test flight, in which six crew members (Major Amir Azam, Havildar Abdual Waheed, Havildar Zeeshan Haider, Naik Muhammad Imran, Sepoy Kaleem Ullah and Sepoy Noor Mustafa) embraced shahadat and two were critically injured.

A large number of senior officers, Jawans and relatives attended the funeral ceremony. Later Jisd-e-Khakis were dispatched to their native home towns.

The helicopter looked like a V5 model from one pic I saw.
