Army Chief: I don't believe in extension and will retire on due date

Yar tum tou serious hi ho gaye --- i was saying that on the lighter note
Gen sb played it well -- he has his most trusted team in place (as being said in the circle) from Lt.Gen Bajwa to DG MO, DG ISI, CC Karachi - all are his trusted men ---- so even if he is 'Allowed' to leave he will still leave his legacy behind
and if he is 'not allowed' to leave then again he will continue his legacy as He wanted to leave, but 'they' stopped him because they couldn't handle jackass without him

Actions speak Louder !!!!
and his actions were the evidence in themselves ----
Sir just having conversation with my friend in Pakistan he told me if Gen. Haroon Islam was selected operation zarb e azb and TTP long back finished, he (Haroon Islam) swiftly finish Swat operation by using acute brute force. Want to have your opinion.

The Pakistan Army on Monday rubbished reports that the army chief would seek to extend his tenure from three to four years.

“Speculations about extension in service of COAS are baseless,” the ISPR Director General Lt-General Asim Saleem Bajwa said in a Twitter message.

While quoting the army chief, ISPR said national interest is supreme and will be safe guarded at all costs.

Earlier, the federal government has dropped the clearest hint yet that it is ready to back a proposal to extend the tenure of chief of the army staff’s office from three to four years.

Sources close to the prime minister’s office said, on the condition of anonymity, that the proposal was informally floated with the top military office. But the incumbent of the office suggested that the government should reconsider the proposal and implement it from the tenure of the next chief of the army staff, who will take charge in November 2016.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, they claim, effectively communicated to the federal government that he may not be interested in any extension in his office tenure. There has been a lot of media speculation round this particular question.

The idea of extension in tenures is a continuation of former military General Pervez Musharraf who gave extensions to himself from 2001 to 2008 and then General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani who was given extensions in his normal tenure and he ended up serving in the role for six years.

A good decision as expected. This man will go down as the best COAS in Pakistan history.
Hope Lt Gen Zubair Hayaat will be the next COAS.

He's smart and knows Pakistani awaam is fickle in nature. One day you're a hero and the next your a villain. He's getting out as a hero.

General Raheel Sharif has been impeccable leader, from National Security perspective it would be nice to keep him in leadership role

So have faith people, there may be several more Raheel Sharif's standing in line, who may be even better and more sincere than him.[/QUOTE]
Couldn't agree more sir

Could be a face savor as he is not getting extension from the government anyways.

Haroon Islam? Do you by any chance mean Gen Zaheer ul Islam (ex ISI chief)? Lt Col Haroon Islam (SSG) was martyred in Lal Masjid Operation. There is also Gen Muhammad Haroon Aslam of the SSG.

I don't think Raheel Sharif would have been appointed earlier had Kiyani not received an extension. Kiyani's extension resulted in various senior Army officers retiring - Raheel Sharif would have been much lower (junior) in the ranks and unlikely to be picked.

There would also be no guarantee that whoever took over from Kiyani (had he not received his extension) would entrust Raheel Sharif with the critical posts that he held under Kiyani or would have promoted him.

This is an example of placing too much emphasis on personality rather than the institution. Gen. Haroon Aslam played a critical role in the Swat operations, but as an institution, the Army would have analyzed and absorbed the strategy, tactics and lessons learned from those operations (and others) - they didn't just die out with Gen. Haroon Aslam's retirement.

That would be great.
But the brotherhood of our currently corrupt to the bones politicians(next batch in making) won't allow any sincere come to front
I honestly don't know. I hope he gets into politics.

A lot of things can change in the next 10 months and depending on situation he might be forced to stay.

But don't lose hope, generals under him would have gained a lot from his leadership. His reputation and moral character has set an example for future candidates who will try equally hard if not harder to build a similar image. Who knows next coas might very well his version 2.

One thing for sure, Indians and Pakistani politicians are celebrating tonight. Though that celebration might cut short anytime.

oh Nair, such things are manufactured and intended by design. Once the initial critical mass is achieved - the mob hysteria takes over.

We have our very own Modi to go by - really eerily similar personalities

Really how is that .. Ordinary people love him for cleaning up the mess? He started operation ZeA (cleared 95+% territory).. He has cleared Karachi .. He's there to show support to troops fighting on the front.. Built schools, hospitals, roads and bridges in FATA & Baluchistan... He formulated policies to recruit dozens of thousands of troops from deprived regions.. He's there when the people need him... He's respected and honored/awarded by Russia,US & EU... Truckers adorn their trucks with his paints... Market owners/traders,rickshaw drivers, vans, etc display his pictures.. People on social media and in cities salute him... And he's respected because he did it .. He earned people's respect.. He has done things to show for it..

Unlike modi mania .. That was powered by rehtorics and showmanship.
