It reminds me of all the goofs here who claim that the 70% of Afghanistan not under the direct control of ISAF/U.S./ANA "...must therefore be under the theocratic thumb of the taliban...".

Pakistan is a perfect storm awaiting the final coalescence. All the conditions for a global migraine wrapped in one neat, nasty, venomous package just waiting to go off.

Thank God for the sober perspectives offered by Bruce Riedel and others to remind us of the clear and present danger which now exists at mankind's doorstep.

I love pakistanis for this as they milk US like noone else and perfectly well deserved and uniquely justified way.US owes lot and often default to ones its owes the most.

Case point is the movie "charlie wilson's war" which ofcourse based on the the real life story of US senator charlie wilson who secured billions of dollors as congressional aid for the covert operations aganist the Soviets in Afganstan,but was rebuffed for few million $ for reconstruction work in Afganstan after the end of the war.

one should take this western propaganda with a pince of salt. No way the pakistani establishment will allow the so called 'Pakistani Taliban' or other entity to take control of the Pakistani State.

abosulute bull crap. the Pakistani people have clearly rejected the taliban idealogy.
Case in point the recent election in which the party that won the majority seats in NWFP is a openly secular party. Another example is the operation in swat that had support of all the political parties and also of the poeple. there have been numerous polls that state that the people of pakistan will never let the taliban come to power.
Even when the MMA (taliban sympathizers) were in power they still did not hold enough seats to actually control parliament.
The Pakistani military is not so feeble that it can just be brushed aside by the taliban.
so lets not give into all the hype and everybody here needs to take a cold shower.
