Are you from martial race ?

There needs to be some clarity on what constitutes a "race" here.

Everyone seems to have a different definition.

Also, while we are at it, how about some clarity of what constitutes "martial" ?

Every people at some time or the other in history have picked up a weapon to defend themselves or to wage war on others.

Is there then a cut off somewhere?

It were the purabiya soldiers mostly bengalis and madrasis from south of EIC which extended EIC rule over india.Till 1857 they were classified as martial race by british EIC officers.After 857 revolt they cut down the numbers of purabiyas in british army coz bengalis were most enlightened and hence were of extremists nature.British then started recruiting heavily from punjab hence they became martial race then.

you can not compare British and Indians at that time , British were much more advanced for Indians

Valid question ... Good question ...

Probably nomenclature of Martial 'race' is probably taken from Europe which is not applicable in case of India.Since Race is not identifiable in India as in Europe, But lifestyle is clearly depend on castes.So it is more suitable to use it as martial castes or martial tribes.

But Concept of 'Martial race' have seen some validity in even today's time in modern army of India and Pakistan.

Rajpoot had history of Warriros like Chohans , Rathore,

Maratha's crashed Mughal, Conquered near about all india , once up to peshwar in pakistan.

People in these communities always have some X-factor for battle ground.

But all of them had taste of Defeat too, taste of Humiliation too.

No wonder 4 feet Vietnami Fucked 6 feet tall Americans in cold war , Any one can defeat anyone.
But just particular martial race people get raised in climate of war and inspirations of warriors which was/is their x-factor.

Who say Chinese are not Martial ?

Look every society has it's own share of Martial race/caste/tribe/Population.

Difference is about degree ,some has more(Rajasthan) and some has less (Gujrati).

Up until 1857, British Indian Army was full of Brahmins, Rajput and Muslims from Bihar, UP. But since they revolted in 1857 they got shunted by the Britishers, many even got shipped out to other colonies like Mauritius, Fiji. After 1857 Sikhs were enlisted British Indian Army in large numbers, and that tradition has continued till this day.
