What's new

Are Seraiki people a sub group of punjabis or are they there own ethnicity?

Another BS from ur undeveloped brain, infact loss of grey matter and vertebra is clear, What I am saying is a comparison, like an example, not at all equating the other ethnicities equal to Indians or Afghanis. If i did equate it I would have actually said it, You are like Indians, Afghanis, race, colour, ethnic, culture, length and breath.

I have already said, I feel cutting the Punjabis superiority among some Punjabis out, I consider Punjabis equal to Sindhis, Balochis, Paktoons and Muhajirs. You do need to read with big glasses post number 8 earlier in the last sentence: https://defence.pk/threads/are-sera...they-there-own-ethnicity.446824/#post-8634410

Beti g, the reason u can't comprehend a simple post i wrote earlier first page, shows me you and ur familia are metric fail.

Afghani has false bravdo, its the central asians who are the real ancestors, and Afghanis gets raped, smuggled, invaded and sell themselves to the highest bidder and yet claim themselves as some of the proudest martial race. what a fck joke? are you a Afghani in disguise by any chooice...lol.. What has any Afghani ever produced or given to Pakistanis other than refugees, terrorism and economic burden, infact Pakistanis fought wars for them to liberate these namak harams....who u worship like ur masters. Punjabis donot worship Afghanis or anyone.

Punjabis are way proud of its language then anyone, the billion dollar Punjabi Music industry around the world, and in India and Pakistan is ran by Punjabis, so coming from a farted brain, who is afraid to disclose his own ethnicity due to own faults, telling others about own language shyt. You have little to no knowledge of Punjabi language.

Let me educate you about Punjabi Language:

Punjabi
is a Indo-Aryan-Pakistani language. It is the native language of about 130 million people, and is the 10th most spoken language in the world. Most of the people who speak this language live in the Punjab region of Pakistan and India. It is also widely spoken in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. It is natively spoken by the majority of the population of Pakistan and India. Punjabi is also widely spoken in UK, US and overseas Punjabi settlers.

Punjabi has many dialects. They form a continuous series that eventually becomes Hindi in India and Sindhi in Pakistan. The dialects are similar enough to each other that speakers can understand most of the dialects that are related to theirs. In India, the main dialects of Punjabi are: Majhi, Doabi, Malwi and Pwadhi. In Pakistan, the main dialects are Majhi, Pothohari, South Punjab, Saraiki, Hindko and Multani. Majhi is Punjabi's most important dialect because it forms the standard for writing in Punjabi. Other dialects of Punjabi include Pahari, Dhani, Shah Puri, Jhangochi, Rachnavi, Chenavari, Chhachi, Jandali, Ghebi, Thalochi, Riasti.

The Saraiki, spoken in Southern Punjab, and Dogri Punjabi, spoken in Kashmir, are closely related to Punjabi, a subgroups of Punjabi language.

Don't make me laugh.. It's generally the other ethnic groups that are into the whole superiority complex rather than Panjabisz

This is very accurate. Punjabi identity never had issues of superiority complex in its narrative. If you listen to punjabi folk music or anything related to past punjabi culture you never hear anything about 'superiority' or anything of the sort. I have no idea what 'Asianunion' is talking about. The word superiority has very distinct connotations and I don't believe that it applies to punjabi thinking at all

Saraiki and Pothohari deserve their own province..
I cannot speak for sariaki and hazara but there is no such demand from photohar . We photwari want to unite Pakistan rather than dividing it into further provinces .

So you Pothoharis consider yourself Punjabis?

My problem is why we Punjabis have to hear sab kuch kha gaye for people who dont consider themselves Punjabis? they should do Punjabis a favor and ask for their own province whether they live is south or north.. doing this will clear doubts on Punjab too..

You get this demand from saraiki people of west Punjab because they think that they are being ignored and most development funds of Punjab are being spent in Lahore and outside south Punjab... Its job of Punjab government to give equal importance to all region within Punjab then people would not complain . Its a political issues and has nothing to do with they dont want to associate themselves with Punjabi people of central Punjab or feel any hatred for them.

This is not the only reason, other reason is Saraiki used to have their own state before Pakistan.. they want it back from Punjabi elite doesn't matter even they make south Punjab like Europe.. they want their own identity in Pakistan which they think is different from Punjab,

Why all of you not answering my basic question about Pothoharis? do they consider themselves Punjabis? i met few who think they have different warrior history and culture.. they are not like real Punjab aka Central Punjab..

I never heard such non sense from any saraiki speaker and your second question already been answered in many Punjabi thread running in here. Are you Punjabi ?

https://defence.pk/threads/do-pakis...-indian-punjabis-and-vice-versa.392736/page-7

If you have met few potwari who dont want to be associated with Punjab then you will also find many Punjabi who think pothwari are different people because Punjabi cannot comprehend potwari language and cannot associate with certain potwari culture and tradition. Few potwari also find it offensive when people call them kashmiri because Mirpuri sound similar to Potwari language but these are two diverse group. Potwari is also similar to hindko as i actually understand all these mahya and local hindko songs but then again these are two different groups. Its all depend how you actually define Punjabi as Punjab is diverse region and people belong to different castes/tribes reside in there and have got their own history and people/tribes living in potwar region has history of involving in wars/conflicts and joining army in great numbers whether mughal, British, pakistan army. I consider Potwari as dialect of Punjabi and potwar region is in Punjab so they are Punjabi ..satisfied now?

Bhai sab stop generalizing because of asianunion who's kid.

Why blame punjabis only for Bengal debacle, was Bhutto punjabi? Did Musharraf ask punjabis before blowing up Bugti cave which started insurgency?

You can say N is punjab based, voted in by large numbers of punjabis. And they have done nothing but good things for Balochistan in last 3 years.

Agreed, most punjabis are pan Pakistani nationalists. Average person doesn't really care about province being divided. Its more of a political issue so if people want more provinces in south then go for it.

Same with pahari (mirpuri) people are we punjabi or not?

The people of Mirpur are Dardic Pahari speakers. Punjabi is a different language although there are some similarities. Potohari, Pahari of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are regional variations of Dardic Pahari.

A person from Mirpur can be Kashmiri, Rajput, Jat, Gujjar, or Pakhtun. Hence, being from Mirpur does not denote a race. Mirpur as stated by Webster's Geographical Dictionary is a town in the Jammu part of Jammu and Kashmir. This means Azad Jammu and Kashmir is geographically Jammu. The people of Mirpur are ethno-geographically "Jammuite". They are ethno-linguistically "Pahari". Although the Pahari of Mirpur is Dardic.

Basically Punjabis are first defined from the region, Punj -ab land of five rivers. One is Punjabi firstly due to the region Punjab it belongs to, region of birth / settlement, then comes the Punjabi language, traditions, caste, sub groups like sariaki, potohari etc...hence so forth.

There is now a growing trend that everyone who was born, settled in Punjab starts to call himself/herself Punjabi. It is natural in Pakistan if u r Punjabi you are better overall...better job and living oppurtunities, better quotas etc... A lot of proud superiority complex and bravado history with alot of money has created this impression of Superior Punjabi. I feel are Punjabibis equal to Paktoon, Balochi, Sindhi, Kashmiri anyone. We are all muslims and humans first.

Yes, Punjabi does not denote a race. It denotes a region. Punjabis are people from the Punjab region. Also, Punjabi as a religious language is significant amongst the Sikhs.

Potohari is influenced by Punjabi. However, some of the grammar of Potohari is very different to Punjabi. Hence, Potohari is a Dardic Pahari language.

:omghaha:

Pakistan doesnt have castes, and people don't 'claim' they are punjabi, they just acknowledge that they are.

On the other hand, people do claim they are decended from a particular tribe, or are rajput, or jatt, but thats not the same thing.

Just to clarify Pakistanis especially as Muslims shouldn't discriminate between each other. However, castes at least by name do exist in Pakistan. Castes can be a social class based on profession as stated in Collins dictionary. The "Teili" is the oil seller. The "Nai" is the barber. The "Kumar" is the pot maker. These castes were inherited by Pakistanis from their Hindu ancestors.

Pakhtuns/Pashtuns system is a tribal confederacy. Pakhtuns/Pashtuns are however, Ironic people and not Indic people. However, no one is better than another because of race, colour, or ethnicity.

Saraiki are a sub-group of Punjabis, they just have their own language. By paharis/mirpuris im guessing you mean potwhari, im from there and its just a language, otherwise we are all Punjabi. :D

Mirpur is not a language. Poonchi, Dhundi-Kairali, Mirpuri, Potohari, etc. are regional varieties of (Dardic) Pahari. Hindko in its essence is a Pahari language.
