Are desi muslims confused about their origins and where they belong?

Pakistan's culture is more influenced by Iran then Arabs. Everything west of Iran was influenced by Arabs which is why most of North Africa follows Arab culture but everything east of Iran was influenced by the Persians. From the CARs to Afghanistan to Pakistan, even as far as the Chinese Muslims.

Than there is the fact that half of Pakistan literally have nothing to do with India period, the Baluch and the Pakhtuns that make up the Western portions of Pakistan never were and never will be "Indian". Even if Pakistanis were to say oh yeah we are Indian it would not apply for nearly half the country. So at most Pakistanis can and should say we are an ethnic Indo-Iranic nation but Pakistanis first and foremost.

We are descendants of IVC but its you guys who are confused and dont even know who you guys really are! sometimes you guys claim yourself to be descendants of IVC and sometimes you guys call yourself to be apart of ganges civilization.

I come from a sunni mahajir family from Karachi. I know my ancestors were from UP in india. Never been there myself.

Plz stop calling your self sunni again and again, we muslims especially Pakistanis dont give a fcuk about it. Whether we are sunni or shia, we just call our self muslims.

I was born in Pakistan in the city of Karachi. I lived there till I was 17 until I moved to the US in 2000. I was raised in a moderate sunni muslim family. After moving to the US and visiting Saudi Arabia and UAE I realized that most arabs think of desis as low class laborers and never give our people equal rights in their countries (for example you cant get their citizenship even if you are born there nor can you marry one of their women). If you look at our desi culture you will find that we have a lot more in common with indian hindu culture than we do with the Arabs (even though we practice their faith). The point im trying im trying to make is that we arent accepted by the Arabs as one of them despite sharing the same religion but we arent hindu either. So where do we truly belong?

Its interesting if you look at our ancestors who were hindus but they got along well until the arabs came and started converting some to muslims. Now we dont belong anywhere. We arent hindus (even though our language, culture and values are) but we never fit in with the Arabs either since they think we are "Low Class" and not good enough to be a part of their society.

What Islam and Muslims have to do with Arabs ??? Neither us nor the Iranis, Afghanis, Turks are Arabs, but dont they belong to the same religion. Also there are Christians in Pakistan, india, BD and several other countries, even though they dont have the ethnicity of europeans, americans

well there are class divides....i've met seasoned Pakistani bankers and finance experts (I met Shaukat Aziz in 2004, 2011) who are quite polished individuals with STELLAR professional credentials who have even ADVISED Persian Gulf countries.....but then you have the lower income laborers who indeed - they are treated like crap across the board regardless they are from Nepal india Pakistan SL Bdesh Egypt or Indonesia.....etc. They are not treated equally and that has got to change. At the same time they are there only for work, not for their honour or pride reasons

the only thing we share in common with indian/hindu would be some linguistic similiarities (only with north indians) as well as our temperaments and a few other nuances. With Arabs of course we share little culture but then again Arabs dont share common culture with eachother - linguistically they are different. Algerians are not like Egyptians completely; Iraqis are not like Lebanese. etc.

Karachiites seem to be the only ones who suffer from this "crisis". Even the writers who bring such stuff up are usually karachiites. So I am not surprised you are suffering from a crisis, a community that still calls itself migrants after nearly 3 generations is bound to have their eggs scrambled.
