i wish we sided with Iran instead

We should be neutral when it comes to Arab-Iranian conflicts just like they are neutral when it comes to Pakistan-India conflicts.

What have the Iranians done for us? Atleast in the 1990's when US placed sanctions on Pakistan, Saudi Arabia gave us free oil for a short period of time and helped our economy while the Iranians were giving us threats.

.
A few points:

- In the original article, I fail to see what India has to do with Pakistan-Arab relations. Perhaps the author displays his own bias and hidden agenda when mentioning such irrelevancies. Pakistan's aim should be to safeguard Pakistani interests, and it's not a zero-sum game of chosing between Arabs and Indians.

As far as I could make out, it is not about "Pakistan-Arab relations" but the fact that Pakistan tried to become "them".

It is not about choosing one over the other but realizing where your destiny lies.

General Musharraf appears finally to have realised that as a country that is part of the subcontinent and whose destiny is linked with the Indus-Gangetic area, Pakistan would never be accepted as part of West Asian Islamic states.

.
Arabs got oil and Arabs helped Pakistan during the time US placed in sanctions on Pakistan. Hating on Arabs will only cause more problems for Pakistan. Pakistan can use Arab nations for our benefits as well.

who said anything about hating?

if you love the arabs so much then change your flag.

the arabs have helped, but what have they taken in return? - they have looted pakistan as well.

and this help from the arabs - how do you not know it was not at the behest of the americans?

there has to be a realization that the best form of reliance is self reliance, if you can do business, and build mutually beneficial ties then do so, but dont rely on anyone.

There are some Pakistanis who are very proud of their Arab roots, for example the Syyeds and Qureshis we have in Pakistan.

And its none of your business what kind of relations Pakistan has with Arab world.

even under an islamic totalitarianship, at least they try to move forward in fields like education

iranians are just as racist towards pakistanis as the arabs are.you should read some of the suff they say about pakistanis.

whats with pakistanis and sucking upto every muslim country?

pakistanis should take pride in who we are.stop allowing other muslims to push us around in the name of islam.

even afghans insult us,these same afghans who have stayed amongst pakistanis as refugees, have millions of their beggar refugees living in our country,do the lowest jobs for pakistanis.

i feel like pakistanis are the most deluded and pathetic ppl in the world sometimes.

It is my business and there is nothing you can do about it.

There are more Qureshis in Pakistan than in Arabia (as per a Pakistani writer I read some time back).

One can guess how many are real and how many are fake. A lot of people became Arabs overnight during the partition melee.

The worst thing is that it was our own country who raised a voice for the Arabs for the first time in the international arena (UN). Our first foreign minister fought for the right of Arab countries like no one has ever did and we helped these nations stand up on their own feet.

We developed their financial institutions, trained their security forces, developed their society and at what cost?

We lost all that we built for ourselves in this process of helping them.

As for all this ancestral roots, some of us to have Persian, Arab and Central Asiatic roots but that was such a long time ago that it does not matter anymore and we decided to choose Pakistan.

This means that we pledged our allegiance to Pakistan, to work for this nation and this nation alone, not idiots like Bandar from the lineage of Bedouin thieves.

I don't see how "Arab bashing" will now solve problems. It doesn't make any sense in blaming Arab for all the problems in Pakistan. IF the Pakistani ruling class and establishment had no qualms in using Gulf oil money and religious groups for their own foreign policy objectives. No will you if you try to be more Arab than the Arab themselves. One of the reason why Iranian influence in Arab countries is not welcomed by even the average Arabs. So Pakistanis themselves will have to realise that their future is with good relations with south Asia as Iqbal and Jinnah had foretold. Everything else is secondary.

And historically, since the 11th century, for about a 1000 years Arab land has been under the control of foreingers, Mongols, Turks and Persians. Later you had client states who were subservient to either USSR or US and were used as proxies in the Cold war. Fareed Zakaria had a good take on this here
.

Finally beginning this year, Arabs are actually starting to take their destiny into their own hands. So there is no point in putting them up on a pedestal as demigods, nor is there any need to blame them for perceived wrongs. Once you respect yourself, you beget respect.

And Egyptians for the biggest chunk of the Arab population followed by Iraq, both countries have a secular liberal tradition that has been developed of centuries with large non-muslim populations. Its only recently with the wars and security regimes that the society has been radicalised but it still inherently tolerant as we saw in the recent Egyptian democracy protests where Muslims and Christians protested together.

the only pakistani's that have tried to become them are those that have been through the arab sponsored madrassa network, else its a different story.

and the people who let this happen are our own elites, this is what has caused confusion amongst people.

the holy places will always have a special place for all muslims, but this has been conflated with dreamy notions of botherhood.

those pakistanis who claim arab roots do this because they have an inferiorty complex towards arabs. pakistanis are genetically not related to arabs at all. how do you think arabs must react when they see inferior, poor pakistanis trying to link themselves to arabs through blood relations?

Egyptians are treated and thought of very badly by the bedouin Arabs, they have a demeaning name for them which is often used to put them down.

You dont know anything about Pakistanis. There is so much diversity in Pakistan, more than you can imagine.

And yes Syyeds and Qureshis we have in Pakistan are proud of their Arab roots but also proud of being Pakistani.

There is nothing wrong in being proud of your family roots and at the same being loyal to Pakistan.

There is also some Syyeds and Qureshis living in India. You should talk to them, maybe they can explain to you about their family roots.

Don't raise trash issues, neither this is a arab bashing thread nor are all of Pakistan's problems being laid at the steps of the arabs,

Its only recently with the wars and security regimes that the society has been radicalised but it still inherently tolerant

Why lie, as ambassador Hilaly bravely points out ever since the 4 righteous Khalifs there has been a long history of religious political violence.

And for all the intellectual zero's out there -- you and I are conversing in English, doe sthat make us Englshmen?? The only Arbis in th world are the arbis of the peninsula. Egyptians are noi arabs, they are Egyptians.

You are talking to an Indian about diversity!

There are several times when 5-6 of us are together and none has the same mother tongue. Guess what, it doesn't even matter to any of us. We switch languages on the fly when talking to each other.

I know all about your diversity. It is a fraction of ours.

And yes Syyeds and Qureshis we have in Pakistan are proud of their Arab roots but also proud of being Pakistani.

They may be proud of their Arabic roots. Many are obviously faking that.

But can that small minority be allowed to dictate the policy of a country of 180 millions? Even if the country as a whole is the loser for it?

You are also living in USA now. So you are American as well.

Will USA run as per your wishes or follow policies that benefit the country as a whole and the largest population?

Pakistani's ancestors were more progressive and intelligent than arabs ancestors(indus valley civilisation, vedic civilisation just to name a few examples). Pakistanis still to this day are more progressive and intelligent than arabs.

So why the Fu*k pakistanis have this inferiorty complex towards arabs? i just dont get it. how can you think of somebody as supeior because of their ethnicity?
