Please, Apple is the #1 most valuable brand in the world. Calling it an "also ran" or the next Blackberry is laughable.
There is a much bigger truth to the Apple's strategy. Apple was/is never a numbers company. They don't want to be the biggest company in terms of installed based/users. They want to have the most profitable and most loyal customer base. Apple was/is never about the biggest market share. They were once the biggest in number because they were the pioneers in touchscreen phone space.
They don't want to sell a $100 -200 phone and make $50 but rather a $350 phone atleast and make $100 or so. They did the same in computer space and now phone too.
