What's new

Apple CEO Tim Cook: 'Why would you buy a PC anymore?'

6 years is too old for a laptop... I am surprised your monitor has not gone yet...

I don't know what i am talking about.. I am also using a 2009 MacBook Pro and it's overheating.... You can buy 'Thermal Paste' on EBay... They seem to recommend 'Arctic Silver' and there's plenty videos on You Tube about how to apply it... You have to open the inside and get it applied to the CPU (Processors) i am afraid... It might just give another lease of life...

By the way your Prime Minister is in the UK as we speak... Lots of demonstrations by Moslems and Seiks already started here..
ah i will search.. i dropped the laptop twice, the plastic bit that surrounds sceen is chipped but screen is ok.
am not really that keep in actual politics other than debating online in abstract... so dont care really if PM comes. Only hope he does not become an embarassment and featured in comedy shows.

Apple CEO Tim Cook: 'Why would you buy a PC anymore?' - Yahoo Finance

Apple CEO Tim Cook is out beating the drum for the 12-inch iPad Pro tablet, which launches later this week, and he doesn't really see why anybody would need a full personal computer anymore.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Cook said, "I think if you're looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?"

He continued: "Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones."

But recent history is against him. The iPad has seen seven straight quarters of declining sales — measured against the previous year — dipping below 10 million for the first time since mid-2011, and analysts seem to have given up on it. The overall tablet market has been declining for the past year as well.

Meanwhile, Apple's Mac business has been doing better than ever before — last quarter, the company sold a record 5.71 million Macs.

The iPad Pro is Apple's latest attempt to reverse this trend. Like the Microsoft Surface, which Cook once described as being like a combination refrigerator and toaster, the iPad Pro comes with an optional attachable keyboard. You can also buy a stylus for it to sketch on the screen. It also has a larger screen than those of previous iPads, coming in at almost 13 inches diagonally.

Cook acknowledged that the larger iPhone screen, introduced with the iPhone 6 in 2014, might have hurt iPad and iPad Mini sales. But he said Apple didn't mind as long as it was cannibalizing itself.

We'll be testing the iPad Pro, out later this week, and see how it compares with Microsoft's Surface Pro 4.

I m using HP Omni 10 windows 8.1 tablet (even writing this from it) but I miss conventional keyboard of PC, my experience tells me tablets are good for using internet, media, eBook readers etc. But when it comes to creative or full fledged office work then currently they can not replace PCs or even laptops.

Hain ? o_O

I have android device & happy with that !
Sorry, but why did you say they suck when you haven't even had one?:undecided:

No matter how power laptops become e.g Alienware or new Razors you can't work on laptops for long duration compared to Desktop computers. If someone is serious about working they always go with Desktop.Obviously you can get a laptop and a docking station and put an external monitor and have somewhat like a desktop. Thats what I am planning to get because I can't have an expensive desktop and a laptop at same time. so I have to go with laptop as mobility is more important for me.

Alienwares and Razors don't even come close to the MSI GT80 Titan in terms of performance.

Not everyone uses computers for gaming.
There are different devices for different purposes. For me, RAM takes precedence over a faster processor. Decent processor and display does the job.
I don't play games alot I do alot of 3D rendering and simulation along with game asset creation so I went with The Msi Gt80 Titan(The dual Gpu version)
Its got
an FHD Display
a quad core i7 @3.6Ghz
Two 980M Gpus
32 gigs of Ram
It set me back $3K along with a mouse and a Headphone.

Great laptop you have there buddy, one of the very best. I used to play games, lot. I still do, sometimes. I have this laptop with 750M, 8 GB and full HD, not quite top of the line, but does a decent job.
I think I'm going to get that Surface Pro 4, it will be available here within a week or two.

Becuz tablets are useless
Blasphemy!

Tablets are really useful. Now, thanks to tablets, I can check and respond to my emails anywhere, watch movies, do my workouts. Most of the reading I do on tablet only.
