Yes maybe but i'm totally newbie in android modding stuff. I'm a Apple user for 5 years straight & i know about most things about jealbreaking & cydia stuff & Android is very complicated system b/c of lack of safety features. Example, in iOS after Jailbreaking, there is a feature called 'Safe Mode'. Like if you do some thing stupid to it or Install a wrong tweak or extension, you could always remove that problematic tweak in safe mode & return back to normal mode without any hassle. & even if you F it up big then just plug it in iTunes & restore the iOS. Very simple.
Now the thing is, i don't understand android rooting stuff so i don't wanna mess with it even more b/c i read somewhere on XDA forums that if you perform the fixing process wrong, you can also hard brick the device.
Seems like that software repair guy couldn't get it to work.
Btw do you know about this stuff or just basics?
Unfortunately I am quite involved with stuffs. Don't have time to post a tutorial. But search for android rooting basics on google. It will throw up a lot of entries. Skim through some. I am sure you will understand the basics. It's not a big deal that much is assured.
The bare bones steps are:
1. Unlocking of boot-loader
2. Root your ROM to get super User access
3. Install some recovery app like CWM (clockwork mod- simple and preferable) or TWRP
4. Install a fresh ROM.
As long as you can transfer files to phone memory from your Mac/PC, you should be fine !!
