What's new

Any programmer here!!

If yr short on time then go for c...also if you learn c then u can master many other languages...
If u learn c++(partial object oriented) then would be a bit difficult to learn structure oriented language

.
i would recommend C#( C Sharp) for you coz its more easy than C++ for a new learner, as C++ is fading and becoming obsolete....!

Nop. C++ is very much alive and here to stay :)

OP, go for C++. Its a good idea to have basic competency in at least one programming language no matter what major you are in.

He is right though after java, C++ has lost much of it's importance.

Nobody to speak for Python ? Python is one of the easiest languages to learn and if you look that all the new tech esp. drones you will see that they are using Python.

i am talking on OOP perspective. C++ was meant to be object oriented language but java has taken the lead from it.

Yessir because Java is more user friendly to create those graphics oriented software. For barebones hardware programming, C/C++ rules. Plus, wasn't it C# derivative that Apple used for iOS App development? It is up to the original poster what he wants to do. For example, Lotus might be good for DB, but otherwise pretty useless.

Yes i am,

If you are in Mechanical stream then why do you want to learn programming language. You can spend your time in learning CAD,CAM etc which will help you better.
I am doing solidworks but i need to learn basic coding for my M.Tech Project also.

I recommend you C,as this one should give you the basic idea about Programming.I don't think you should go for OOP Languages first as then you'll miss the Structured Programming Language totally.start with C,then go for C++ and Java.

Thanks for your guidance. I am thinking to learn C through free online courses.

C is a pain in the backside for someone out to learn programming for the first time.

I would go with Java or Python.

You can pick up C later in case you want to build low level stuff.
