Antony urges Russia to induct Brahmos missile in its armed forces

@ 10:00 to 11:00 of the Video, basically the guys said that brahmos might be effective at sea but useless on high mountainous terrain because of high speed of the missle...Indians were just trying to comfort themself and show to their people the new toys placed at chinese border.
If that's the case, then the "Chinese expert" is infact trying to comfort his people by downplaying BrahMos capability. Tell him that he was talking about BrahMos- I and BrahMos-III was specifically designed for Mountain warfare. Show him this news report. :)

The mission highlight was the missile performing tricky manoeuvres, rolls and a vertical dive towards the targeted area in the Bay of Bengal even as it flew at a velocity of 2.8 times the speed of sound. It was the missile's Block III version, boasting advanced guidance and upgraded software, that was tested. The flight established the missile's precision strike capability in mountain warfare.

While BrahMos Block-I version is an anti-ship missile, Block-II is an Army version meant for attacking targets on land. The latest Block-III is meant for operations in mountain warfare where the missile has to hit the target with a steep dive, Dr. Pillai said.

Brahmos is a costly Missile may be that is one of the reason why Russia is not inducting it. The tech involved in Brahmos is what India gained to develop Hypersonic Bhrahmos.

This missile is a huge success and so so many variants Land based,Sub marine based and Air launched.

Besides this missile can also work as a carrier for other missiles.

Russia is trying to make money out of brahmos, and India ask Russia to buy back the missiles, what will be the profit margin for Russia?

An article from strategy page.

Russia has agreed, despite strenuous Israeli objections, to sell Syria the SSN-26 Yakhont anti-ship missile. This missile was under development throughout the 1990s, but was delayed by lack of funds. Now it's in production, and the Russians are seeking export sales. The Yakhont uses a liquid-fuel ramjet and travels 300 kilometers at speeds of over 2,000 kilometers an hour (using a high altitude cruise and a low-altitude approach; if it travels entirely at low altitude the range is cut to 120km). When the missile arrives in the area where the target is supposed to be, it turns on its radar and goes for the kill. Israel is the only one in the region the Yakhonts would be used against. However, because Iran is supplying (unofficially) the cash for the missiles, there is also the risk that some of the Yakhonts would end up in Iran.
The ground based Yakhont can use truck mounted or fixed launchers, with up to 36 missiles supported by a land based search radar and helicopter mounted radars (to locate targets over the horizon). Once a target has been identified and located, one or two missiles are programmed with that location and launched. The Yakhont is a 8.9 meter (27.6 foot) long, three ton missile with a 300 kg (660 pound) warhead.

An improved version of the Yakhont, the PJ-10 BrahMos missile, was developed for India. The 9.4 meter (29 foot) long, 670mm diameter missile is an upgraded version of the Yakhont, which was still in development when the Cold War ended in 1991. Lacking money to finish development and begin production, the Russian manufacturer eventually made a deal with India to finish the job. India put up most of the $240 million needed to finally complete two decades of development, an effort which produced the long delayed Yakhont, and more capable BrahMos. The PJ-10 is being built in Russia and India, with the Russians assisting India in setting up manufacturing facilities for cruise missile components. Efforts are being made to export up to 2,000, but no one has placed an order yet. Russia and India are encouraged enough to invest in BrahMos 2, which will use a scramjet, instead of a ramjet, in the second stage. This would double speed, and make the missile much more difficult to defend against.

India ordered nearly a thousand BrahMos missiles. The Indian Army plans to buy 80 launchers in the next ten years. Russia has not yet ordered any BrahMos, while India is also working on lighter versions for use by aircraft and submarines. A submarine launched version is ready for testing, but the navy has not yet been able to spare one of its 13 subs to carry out the test. The sub launched version requires the building of a vertical silo behind the conning tower. The navy is not keen to be tearing apart any of its subs for this. So the BrahMos people are waiting for the next six subs to be bought, and arrange for a BrahMos silo to be built in. The air force version of BrahMos will be ready this year, and two Su-30 aircraft will be made available for tests.

The 3.2 ton BrahMos has a range of 300 kilometers and a 300 kg warhead. Perhaps the most striking characteristic is its high speed, literally faster (at up to a kilometer per second) than a rifle bullet. Guidance is GPS or inertial to reach the general area of the target (usually a ship or other small target), then radar that will identify the specific target and hit it. The weight of the warhead, and the high speed at impact causes additional damage (because of the weight of the entire missile.)

The high price of each missile, about $2.3 million, restricts the number of countries that can afford it. The weapon entered service with the Indian navy in 2005. The maximum speed of 3,000 kilometers an hour makes it harder to intercept, and means it takes five minutes or less to reach its target. The air launched version weighs 2.5 tons, the others, three tons or more.

India indicates it plans to make the missile a major weapon system. The BrahMos can carry a nuclear warhead, but is designed mainly to go after high value targets that require a large warhead and great accuracy. The BrahMos could take out enemy headquarters, or key weapons systems (especially those employing electronic or nuclear weapons.)

Yakhont And Son Will Do It Fast

Does it really matter what the semi-educated trolls thinks? They have only learnt to read what CCP wants them to read.

The price of the SS-N-26 Yakhont based on the Indonesian deal was US$1.2 million per missile.

I hereby rest my case.

how exactly did u come to the conclusion that high speed missiles r useless in mountainous terrain ??? u c terrain hugging missiles in mountains is not a very good idea bcoz (a) it can severely increase the actual distance travelled by the missile for following the undulated terrain thus effectively reducing the hit range......(b) the main reason for terrain hugging - stealth, is quite nullified by the lofty peaks.

Missiles like brahmos which do not follow terrain is quite safe from detection in mountainous region for the radar cover which the lofty peaks provide from ground radars......after all u cannot place a radar at the top of the peak....

Coupled with this is the capability to hit the target in near vertical terminal trajectory which makes the brahmos all the more deadly in mountainous terrain......

@ march 2.8, is this missile able to have low flight and follow the terrain to avoid detection?:pop:
No.. @february 2.8.

Ok...lol...btw...it has a steep dive capability. So yep this missile is capable of doing what you said i.e., travelling at mach speed.

That's one way of comforting yourself, but facts say it the other way, allow me.

POKHRAN: The Army today successfully conducted the user trial of BrahMos Block-III supersonic cruise missiles that has the ability to engage inaccessible targets inside hillocks.

The test was carried out at a firing range here around 1100 hours and met all the mission parameters, sources told PTI here.

The Block III version has the capability of scaling mountainous terrain and can take a steep dive to engage targets located inside hillocks which are otherwise inaccessible.

This was the 25th test of the cruise missile which has already been inducted in the Army and Navy.Army has plans to induct the missile for mountain warfare.

The missile has the capability to engage ground targets from a very low altitude with minimum radar signature and is considered best for surgical operations.

Considered one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world, BrahMos can gain a speed of Mach 2.8. It has a two-stage propulsion system, with a solid-propellant rocket for initial acceleration and a liquid-fueled ramjet responsible for sustained supersonic cruise.

Jointly developed by India and Russia, BrahMos is a stealth supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft or land.

The submarine and air launch version of the missile are under different stages of development and are scheduled for test-firing in next couple of years.

The fire-and-forget missiles are stored, transported and launched from special mobile launchers and can be launched in both vertical and horizontal modes.

Yes She can do everything dance down from mountain it can also cook food like a good housewife but it cant do one thing for which she is made explode....

has anyone ever said that........ ??? u need a mental checkup...

I have specifically mentioned in my post that brahmos is NOT terrain hugging.......and it has it's advantages in mountainous regions...

Don't talk about something you don't know of. Brahmos block 1 and 2 is terrain hugging, block 3 is top attack version, which gains height after launch and falls vertically over the target.
