Antibodies testing of 7,000 adults in Karachi reveals that as many as 15% of them have already been exposed to COVID19 without experiencing symptoms, according to a study by Dr. Wajiha Javed, an epidemiologist and head of public health and research at Getz Pharma in Pakistan. It takes at least 40% of the population to be exposed to build herd immunity. This may be the only way to normalcy unless there is a vaccine available sooner.

Human Immune Response:

Human body naturally produces antibodies to fight viruses of various kinds, including the coronavirus. Presence of antibodies in a person confirms that he or she has been exposed to a virus regardless of symptoms. It can even detect body's immune response to a low-level viral load. Such an immune response also occurs to a vaccine which does not make you sick but helps build immunity. More low level exposure to viruses in large numbers of people is in fact a good thing because it helps build herd immunity. It takes at least 40% of the population to be exposed to build herd immunity.

Coronavirus Antibodies

Getz Study:

Getz Pharma's Dr. Wajiha Javed told me in the latest update on her ongoing work that serology tests have so far been administered to 7,000 adults aged 18-65 over the last 6 weeks in Karachi. 15% of them have tested positive for antibodies. People tested included those working for banks, restaurants, textile mills, factories, media and health care workers.

Antibody testing kits detect the response of the body rather than the virus or antigen itself. These tests do not have the issue of low viral load. Antibody tests can detect exposure to Covid-19 even in asymptomatic cases. Generally, antibody testing kits have a high level of accuracy, especially on sequential testing. The kit Getz Pharma has been using has a sensitivity (the ability to correctly detect positive cases) of 95.3% and specificity (the ability to correctly detect negative cases) of 98.7% for IgG, and the sensitivity is 86.48% and specificity is 95.18% for IgM, according to Dr. Wajiha Javed.

Asymptomatic Carriers:

Over 90% of those who tested positive in Karachi did not have any symptoms or had only mild symptoms, Dr. Wajiha Javed recently wrote in Dawn newspaper. But some were infectious and they were spreading the virus to others. Because of their non-existent or mild symptoms, they had not reached out to a PCR testing facility to get tested for Covid-19, and were only incidentally picked out for the antibody test during Getz's study.

Summary:

As many as 15% of Karachi adults have been exposed to COVID19 with over 90% of them showing no symptoms, according to a Getz Pharma study in Pakistan. People tested included those working for banks, restaurants, textile mills, factories, media and health care workers. These anti body tests are not accurate.

The big issue with Covid-19 is that nobody would understand why there is sudden increase in deaths due to nobody showing symptoms.

Do you mean people suddenly die without showing any symptoms?

Expected. Many predicted on day 1 that asymptomatic spread would be a major catalyst for this particular pandemic. Lo and behold.

Exposure to a small amount virus is like receiving a vaccine. It does not make people sick nor does it lead to death. It also seems that the coronavirus strain in Pakistan is losing potency and lethality as obvious from very low death rates.

Varying prevalences of multiple different strains would also explain this observation. The variability in lethality in different countries is intriguing. Vietnam has zero deaths, as do a few other countries whose documentation is of questionable reliability. Vietnam has however had hundreds of confirmed cases...but zero deaths. If accurate, that is remarkable.

These tests are highly doubtful and not accurate

Quoting from the article above.

Don't be alarmed. This is not the phenomenon only in Karachi or Pakistan. Antibody screening have shown similar trends in hard hit areas all over the world. Germany already had developed almost 14% - 20% immunity varying across different regions. New York showed 19.9% immunity.
This is good news that we have attained this level of immunity with very low mortality, given the strain that is predominant in Pakistan is not that lethal along with the age characteristics of our population.

#Pakistan's #Coronavirus Death Rate is Among World's Lowest. There were about 4000 deaths daily in Pakistan before the #pandemic. There has been no significant change in this figure in recent days. #Lockdown has destroyed millions of livelihoods. #COVID

These anti body tests are not accurate.
the antibody tests give more false negative then false positives. so if a person has a positive test there are more chances that he has the disease. it has more sensitivity. the antibody tests are being done world over to ascertain the extent of spread of the disease. in US they are doing it for past 2 months. thank God our leadership got some sense and last they they have started antibody testing in islamabad and have plans to carry it out in all the provinces in later stages.

dr wajeeha javed is doing the best job in pakistan. best of luck to her.

Got my antibodies test last week as I got heavily sick in feburary.(Cough that lasted 1 month and shortness of breath)
Turned out to be non reactive. As in I din’t get exposed to Corona so no antibodies made.
Wonder what kind of virus it was in Feb that I had to finish four cough syrups, one antibiotic course and herbal remedies almost daily.

More like Vietnamese are young and slim.

It cannot be a coincidence that countries with young and slim populations have such low numbers of deaths.
