Anti-Koondakulum stir 'sponsored' from outside, alleges Russia

Ban those NGOs and Missionaries and bring all surrounding churches under 24 hour CCTV surveillance

Include Hindu temples, RSS and mosques as well. I was pushing for Modi but I need to seriouly re think my vote. A respected Nobel prize winner, Armitya Sen stated we should follow Kerala's development plan. It takes various factors into consideration..... but I guess you guys didn;t pay attention to that

There is scheme of Industrial park pending since BJP was in power. Since then there were two actions taken one in 2006 and the decision was to postpone the decision and then in 2009 the letter were designated to ask the report of the progress and is still pending since 2009. So you can understand why there is no Industrial development.

Yeah typical stupid politics....Nobody cares in govt.

There were threads in the past on this site about this matter. I posted so many pages it was ridiculous. Most of the time, folks just replied to the thread with an attitude of development over anything and everything. They did not want to hear the ground realities. Look at what other more devleped nations are doing and follow their lead. In fact, they are willing to help. Look at how china plans to incorporate 40% towards green energy. Why can't we do the same? Our ancestors had more respect for our land and here we are destroying it. All these yrs, we never even eastablished an EPA for the environment. We allow ships that are so toxic to be destoyed on our shores with no regard to the toxic pollutants. Other nations wont allow such ships to be destroyed on their land without extensive safety guards in place. And you expect our govt to adhere to what standards exactly? Wake the bloody hell up. Sufficient compensation according to who exactly? Living off the land forever versus a few lakh does what exactly?

If you want the truth, dig up the old thread where I posted numerous information on the truth. I understand India needs energy but you got to do it in a safe manner. BARC has issues with safety. Its just that such incidents have been sealed from public.

We dont saefty protocols in place for evacutaion. We don;t have suppies of Iodine and other tablets for nuclear radiaiton for the local population. We don;t have practice drills for safety. Come on ...I can make a list so long. Like someone stated look at the macro picture that includes safety. You idiots can't see past your nose when we need true visionaries to see the potential ramifications yrs and decades ahead

Sure ther are many reasons but how about we focus on all the core issues.

If you could be kind enough, please let me know the ground realities. Because , all the standard procedure have been met and the people who are living close by are illegally encroaching the area. And that's legal I suppose. And its not just about development,
as i had stated before in one of my posts, disasters can happen from an industry even. And this is not a nuclear research plant. Its a nuclear energy plant for the people. Solar panels and wind energy would need huge areas to generate that amount. And if may point out, India is now investing heavily in solar and wind energy. Please check the solar energy generation in gujurat and wind power in Tamil Nadu itself. Its already 8000MW in just TN. But that's not sufficient to meet the needs of the people there. If there are any proof for any lapse in safety that could lead to potential N-disaster, then please let us know. Its more of a hype and apprehension at this point of time.

And on the point of environmental disasters in India, I agree that we do not have stricter environmental laws in case of any man-made disasters. We do not even have proper ships in case of an oil spill disaster. Those are few bone of contention that have to mended in the coming times. But I dont see that coming too soon, because even the garden city, bangalore, is loitered with garbage now.

Amartya Sen is like a Congress agent........in past he openly asked to support Congress and reject BJP.......and still does so....

Amartya sen is more of a socialist, like the German nationalist socialist party of late 1930's. if you know what i am talking about.

This is why i hate Christian missionaries. These people are converted for free foods and money now gathering them for their self benefits.

Im aware of the progress we are making but we can incease the % as part of our national strategy for energy. Green tech can encompass far more than solar and wind. We could devote more research or tie up with the Europe who is planning more investment in such. Even then I know its not up to the standards of Nuclear engergy in terms of efficiency.

As for encroaching. That;s not true. These ppl are fishermen who have lived and worked the seas for generations. Our govt maligned the protestors by using the media to throw accusations. Till date no evidence has surfaced. Just pure BS speculation. If you are truly interested in the truth, then plz within the Defence India thread go back a few pages and look for it. Its there. I and another poster Trinity posted so much information to counter the lies and propaganda.

Of course other industries can do harm but none can do the potential harm of nuclear reactors. Not being research related doesn;t make it better. The core problem is lack of rules to protect environment and ppl. There is no other way to put it. Sure there are points that such laws will prohibit development but at what cost I ask you? Already, if you are not aware we can see what unchecked regulation of industries if doing to our water and crops. Chemicals upon chemicals, cancer causing chemicals, carinogens, banned pesticide, etc are issues that are going to cause a nightmare in INDia.

Listen I don;t like conversion that engages in such behavior. But for ppl to convert for food tells me a great deal about the sad state they are in. Maybe if Hinduism and the Caste system should reinvent itself and that would help such ppl.

Again, this all hearsay. There is no documented proof whatsoever. Do you understand that? All of you guys are getting whipped up by some pure lies and BS. Where are the cold facts you boast of?

Plz. The guy has more credibility than all of us on this site. He is Nobel Prixe winner. He is a Hindu. And most importantly, he used cold hard facts to prove his point. I and many others value his opinion over some stupid RSS editorial

Please do not get me wrong...Everyone lies but question is whether the lie is life-threatening or not. Fishermen may be there, but if they are on govt. land , then it is a problem. Suppose a port would have been built there instead of a N-plant, then would there be such a big uproar if they were displaced. The answer is NO. Everyone here should abide by the laws laid by the constitution.

And to your question about Green energy, until a few years back, I never knew that we had gone so ahead in green energy. India is 5 th largest wind power and solar power generator in the world ,ahead of every European country except two. Industries like Suzlon are doing great here. But yes, there is more potential to harvest this energy sources but for the long-term. Energy needs are high in this country and fossil fuels are depleting fast.

The people have a right to express their opinion but do not have a right to violate or deny other people from practicing their rights. The problem is not whether they are safe or not but who should decide what kind of power plants, is it the politicians and bureaucrats(not intelligent) or markets which work for profit incentives. If we can privatize the whole utility sector with govt only monitoring the safety and security of the nuclear power plants. We would not have this discussion.

I agree with your POV. I think fishermen wouldn;t have been too upset with a port versus a nuke plant. The risks are what scare them. And thought they may be uneducated and illerate, they are smart to know how our govt, corruption and safety norms work in India. I agree the energy demands are too big to ignore in India. All Im saying is to make sure more safety is in place so that ppl will be satisified. I pointed out how in the US, there are Potassium Iodide tablets kept in stock for the population surrounding such plants. India doesn;t have such stocks yet. We need to do this and incorporate more training for the police forces for emergencies. People in the area need to be eudcated on how to respond in the event of a meltdown. Where to evacaute, where to go, what to do, etc. We need to have hospitals build and develop plans in such emergencies. We need to make sure the water, the fish, the environment are constantly monitored. By doing all that I mentioned and more, would do a great deal to answer people's doubts. BUT the sad truth is the govt; doesn;t. That is the problem. So I ask you what I have suggested.....is that ridiculous? Is it too much? I don;t think so. I think its just part of planning. Proper planning that is

That would be great IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN. And you are correct if it did, we would not have this discussion PERIOD. The reality is that ppl are protesting this because there are no facts being given. Just a lot of hearsay. If these guys were truly guilty of being bribed by foreign elements, don;t you think our govt wouldn;t have charged him? I heard they charged and arrested the leader but for what purpose if they lack the proof? Simple. To make hime sweat it out in court and constantly live under stress. Its a cheap, age old tactic our govt is doing to to her own ppl. And we used to complain of the Brits!

Yes, we are sluggish in matters of environment concerns. But it is very hard to believe that any govt. would be careless in case of nuclear plant safety. The repercussions would be very very high in case of any mishap, even for the most powerful politician. In my view, no matter what you explain, fishermen would not understand the safety measures when even educated people are finding it difficult. And I am not against protests, it is always healthy as it keeps the govt. on its toes.

This is not any govt, this is the INDIAN govt. Look at all track record. Its dismal buddy. People are dying becuase these chemicals but we turn a blind eye to it for the sake of "development." If that is development, no thanks. Thye can shove it. As for repercussions, please let;s fool ourselves. Look at Bhopal and what happned? The accused Mr. Anderson lives happily in Hmptons, LI, a posh area. Union Carbide paid a fine and closed shop and restarted under another name to limit itself from any future liability. What were the repurcussions for Indian politicans? Congress is power still? Look at how fish are affected after the nuclear accident in Japan. Now it's slowly coming out. Expect more in the future. As for not being able to understand, all ppl know what is right and wrong, good and bad. If we have difficulty understanding the issues then why is our govt pushing ahead. A good democracy always makes sure ppl know what is going on. The media should do a better job. But when govt is looking at such interests under 1 prism which is development, everything else gets pushed aside. That is not necessarily in the public's favor. What are they hiding? As I posted before, put safety first and foremost. Its ridiculous.

For all the talk of the need for greater power generation, the state of Tamil Nadu, which forms ground zero of this debate is also one of the few states in India which are ideal for generating wind power due to the wind systems in the region. Studies have shown that TN has the most wind power potential, after Gujarat. Greater investment is required for setting up sub-sea cables to make off shore wind turbines more viable. The capacities of off shore turbines can be 3-4 times that of on shore turbines. Appropriate investment can make states like TN and Gujarat as India's premier green states.

Other than the obvious advantages, such a system will also help cut demand for oil and gas imports. God knows the import bill is killing us.

I agree with this allegations.

The anti-Kudankulam stir is basically funded by foreign organizations for their own vested interests and the church which is sthe recipient of these donations is spearheading the movement.

It is bullshit that all the people who are protesting even know what nuclear energy is. Most of them are protesting because their church pastor told them to do so. All wild typically loony-evangelist ideas like nuclear energy is against christianity is being used to mobilise the masses.

Look at this blogpost for a breakdown of how foreign religious organizations and their minions here have received crores to sabotage this plant.

And FYI, I'm also a Tamilian, lest I be accused of being a Naarth indian who does not care about Tamilian lives.

Yeah a blog is quite credible. If these aleegations were true, then they would have been convicted. Politicans are using religion to divide us up again and dummies are falling for it.
