This thread does not endorse any article nor does it cite any references. What i'm hoping to accomplish by this thread is to understand Islam and how an "Islamist terrorist" works. Going by this forum and the various opinions expressed, frankly; i am terribly confused.
There seems to be a huge confusion among the Muslims themselves about whose version of Islam needs to be adopted. I grew up in the middle-east and my fathers nature of work ensured that i would be moving in and out of middle-eastern countries after a brief period pf stay (say 2-3 years). I have been to all of them including Israel (sometimes for stay and sometimes for leisure). During this period, i have come across so many conflicting opinions about Islam and why it was important that everyone adopt it. They say Islam is a religion of peace but then you have people like OBL citing references from Islamic texts that justify his propaganda.
What really prompted me to write this thread were the opinions of the PDF user "Zarvan". He goes on to say invasion of non-muslims lands are justified even when there is no provocation. What scares me is the fact that he and several others like him are mighty confident about Islamic texts justifying their claims. When i read the comments, i feel as if Islam has been quite vague when it attempted to define the difference between right and wrong. If Islam explicitly abhorred the killing and the destruction of innocents, then how are the extremist elements able to recruit more individuals into their cadre? As i understand, great many young Muslims study and memorize the Quran. ie, they know the text by heart. Yet, a portion of them seem to be persuaded by the extremist propaganda. How does this happen?
I have several questions which i hope to introduce later in this thread in the event it is allowed to continue.
My intention is not to offend anyone, rather it is an attempt to spark a debate.
Regards,
