This thread does not endorse any article nor does it cite any references. What i'm hoping to accomplish by this thread is to understand Islam and how an "Islamist terrorist" works. Going by this forum and the various opinions expressed, frankly; i am terribly confused.

There seems to be a huge confusion among the Muslims themselves about whose version of Islam needs to be adopted. I grew up in the middle-east and my fathers nature of work ensured that i would be moving in and out of middle-eastern countries after a brief period pf stay (say 2-3 years). I have been to all of them including Israel (sometimes for stay and sometimes for leisure). During this period, i have come across so many conflicting opinions about Islam and why it was important that everyone adopt it. They say Islam is a religion of peace but then you have people like OBL citing references from Islamic texts that justify his propaganda.

What really prompted me to write this thread were the opinions of the PDF user "Zarvan". He goes on to say invasion of non-muslims lands are justified even when there is no provocation. What scares me is the fact that he and several others like him are mighty confident about Islamic texts justifying their claims. When i read the comments, i feel as if Islam has been quite vague when it attempted to define the difference between right and wrong. If Islam explicitly abhorred the killing and the destruction of innocents, then how are the extremist elements able to recruit more individuals into their cadre? As i understand, great many young Muslims study and memorize the Quran. ie, they know the text by heart. Yet, a portion of them seem to be persuaded by the extremist propaganda. How does this happen?

I have several questions which i hope to introduce later in this thread in the event it is allowed to continue.

My intention is not to offend anyone, rather it is an attempt to spark a debate.

Regards,

Some of us follow the Quran word by word, some like me use it as a guideline for life (Though my knowledge of it is still very weak), some Muslims need to use verses from the Quran to justify all their actions and some are only Muslim by name. The Muslim world is too big and diverse to get one definite answer to your question.

I understand your best intentions, but I can assure you.. this will not end well :smokin:

I know. But some of the posts and opinions have been really alarming. For example, this is something i came across today....
The Question:
dont get the point

Are u suggesting we attack Non Muslim Countries and Enforce Islam there?

The Answer:
Pretty much yes

Any religion is like a two faced sword, you can use it for peace or you can use it for violence.

And about Zarvan, I just enjoy his post, he is very entertaining.

To some individuals, all non-muslims seem to be the "enemy". Some individuals flatly refuse to formally greet a non-muslim as i have personally witnessed in one instance. When you see a group of individuals advocate such intolerance and in some cases extermination of individuals subscribing to an alternate ideology...you begin to wonder and feel scared at the same time.

Well it depends on Society/Surrounding they are living in.

I'd like to request all viewers and posters to maintain civility while trying to get your point across.

religion starts being nuisance as soon as it stops being a personal thing

This has nothing to do with Islam. It's all about the upbringing. For me, my whole life i've been surrounded by non-Muslims. I have ate with them, partied with them, worked with them, studied with them, so to me, I choose not to judge people based on religion but rather by their character.

There are good and bad people of every religion/race, forming stereotypes about Muslims or non-Muslims isn't healthy. At the end of the day, we're all people and our blood is of the same colour.

A person who has limited contact with non-Muslims might have a different opinion.

Another interesting comment which caught my eye.

Offensive Jihad can be done only by killing the main enemy which is soldiers our government leaders Sir who ever will fight will be considered as soldier not civilian

This Zarvan is a nutjob, and we have a thread now to discuss about people like him.
When I see people like Zarvan the one that I see out of them is that "These are men who pie on themself and enjoy that smell"

Regards,

You're a Christian, right? I always feel good when I see Christians being so much concerned about Islam ;) I'll be giving you simple answers for now ..

how an "Islamist terrorist" works

Brainwashing in the name of religion. E.g : Crusaders or Americans (manifested destiny) etc

There seems to be a huge confusion among the Muslims themselves about whose version of Islam needs to be adopted

There are different interpretations just like in any religion . .

i have come across so many conflicting opinions about Islam and why it was important that everyone adopt it.

Welcome to planet Earth, here we all have different opinions about different things.I bet your sisters has different view of Christianity than you have ..Same is the case with me :P

They say Islam is a religion of peace

You should have no doubt about that.I won't be killing or disliking you just because you're a Christian and not a Muslim duhh

you have people like OBL citing references from Islamic texts that justify his propaganda.

Hitler used Christianity to justify his actions..Stalin used Communism..America used "democracy" etc ..Throughout history, people have been using different [good/noble] ideologies to justify their evil actions....kind of brainwashing, ain't it?

PDF user "Zarvan". He goes on to say invasion of non-muslims lands are justified even when there is no provocation

Who is Zarvan? Do you even know if he is really a Muslim or not? I have talked to atleast 8 Indians over the internet who sincerely believes in "destruction of Islam" and "killing of Muslims to end the plaque of Islam once for all" ...I am just telling you about Indians..Don't even ask about some evangelical Christian nuts I know over the facebook or paltalk etc ..So are we gonna base our opinion on YT,PDF comments? Don't care about it,man.

If Islam explicitly abhorred the killing and the destruction of innocents, then how are the extremist elements able to recruit more individuals into their cadre?

I believe you don't believe that Bible teaches the killing/Slaughtering of innocent "infidels" right? Though we can see some very disturbing writings in Pslam or Samuel etc ..Yet,POPE/Priests of Christianity were able to use these passages to justify the killing, raping and slaughtering of other human beings...Same is the case with Islam but in much, much, much less quantity..Thanks God...We don't have a Pope and extremism is not and Inshallah NEVER will be "mainstream" in Islam. There are less than 1% Muslims who believe in killing innocents..wayyyyyy less than one percent, actually !

Hope it helps

A few questions.
Do you feel or do you think that Islam is in need of a renaissance? Are there any ambiguities that need to be addressed ? Is there is a need for evolution in the basic perception if the Islamic concepts ?

.
Read the main religious books for the best knowing. Read Bible, Quran etc.

@Auz

I understand this and i share your sentiments exactly. Most extremists in other religions tend to remain a minority and does not usually carry many political implications. I have seen these "Indians" you speak of and the "right wing Christians" you mentioned. The reason why they always remain a minority is the fact that they do not have a lot of maneuvering space. They get shot down at the conception usually because they have no text to base references from. My understanding of Islam is very very limited. What i'm hoping to achieve, sir is to clear my own doubts and perhaps the doubts among like minded individuals.

I would like to request you however ,to not limit your discussion based on your pre-conceived notions about me or the religion i subscribe to.
