Its rather amusing to see folks throwing a hissy fit whenever they see Arundhati Roy making a statement. No one pauses to pay attention to the point she tries to make. Everyone wants to act nationalistic rather than think with their heads. Look, i admit Anna Hazare is probably an honest man. But its rather obvious that hes also an idiot. Sorry for that "blunt" judgement.

As for her statements regarding Kashmir, I don't agree with holding a referendum. Rather, i am all for integrating them into the mainstream India. Right now; they are tied down, not allowed to grow and isolated. Anyone would feel the need to "rebel" against the "authorities" in such conditions. Strengthen border security, and consume Kashmir (culturally and demographically). The remaining options are not as good.

That is because she only seeks free publicity. Remember the 'Narmada Bachao Andolan'? She & Medha Patkar really created a havoc & put a 'spanner in the works' in the progress of our country. I don't for a moment believe that they were doing it for the love for the tribals. They just wanted their photographs in the news papers.

I believe everyone want's to integrate kashmir into maistream but saying it and doing it is two different things...Kashmir problem is genuinely very complex because there is genuine greivance and fabricated one's...Anyhow not a thread to discuss kashmir so i will end it here...

Don't underestimate difficulty posted by terrain...we have half a million troops stationed there and yet we are not able to seal off the border...anyways lets concentrate on Anna and his stupidity for now...waiting to hear from you...

The only difference between Zaid Hamid and this lady is that Zaid, despite being a certified nut and a full blown psycho, happens to be a patriot which she is not.
Even if we assume that the WB or the Ford Foundation supported Anna's movement, how does it become a wrong thing to support an anti corruption movement? Every well meaning organisation should support Anna. Only someone wishing corruption to flourish will oppose Anna. The RTI and the Jan Lokpal movements are extremely laudable and if the WB is supporting them then the WB should be praised.
Maybe she is annoyed that she has not been given the Magsaysay Award despite all the anti establishment cr@p she keeps dishing out pretending to be a social activist.

Lets not get personal and talk substance. What she is saying is that the movement sidestepped the democratic norms to advance their objective. If the objective is to punish the corrupt officers and politicians then their is no need to side step the parliament and to create an organization with all powers vested in it. I do agree that they set a dangerous precedent to advance their objectives and to bypass the parliament. But I do not think the proposed Lokpal bill is regressive. It does create a separate entity to oversee corruption but is not omnipotent --it will be under review by the prime minister of the country. It could become regressive if it starts becoming vindictive and trample individual rights.
