Animal Activist Saves Dogs in China

Dogs destined to be slaughtered and served up in China's restaurants were saved when the truck transporting them was intercepted by animal rights activists.
The vehicle, carrying 505 canines packed into just 156 tiny cages, was stopped on Yunnan Province's highway from Fumin to Kunming after other drivers spotted its sickening cargo.
A number posted pictures and comments about the load on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, Weibo, prompting the police to stop the lorry at the next toll gate.

yep.. do meat is a delicacy in North China ... even in Indian state of nagaland- dog meat is like by people.. [

yes, dog & cat meat is consumed by a lot of people as they believe it provides heat to the body. Its a flavor of the winter months.

A lot of the people I know or have across enjoy it very often while only a few people who have said no on consumption of dog meat. (P.S. none of these people I knew were dog owners)

Vietnamese also. And it actually isn't "man's best friend", it's "American's best friend". Chinese/Vietnamese eat American's best friends, but Americans eat Indian's holy creature.

Although i haven't eaten any other types of meat except the domestic cattles and the sea foods, i think that people should stop using the western standard to generalize everything.

Americans do consume most beef in the world, i wonder how would an Hindu react to this?

Although i haven't tasted any dog meat, but i think it is nothing embarrassing if some of my countrymen love to taste it.

Even the Western Europeans did consume the dog meat during the period of famine.

my 2 cents: consumption isn't an issue. the inhumane treatment is (cramped cages etc).

US does have a a strong animal rights lobby which has forced legislation to kill with minimal suffering to the animal.

i don't understand why this is a bad thing... in their culture it is completely normal to eat dog meat, while in our culture it's not.

i am not going to scream "you monsters, animal haters" for that.

it would be like Indians screaming to us "you b*tches eat our religions most holy animal" it all depends on your culture.

i don't know Chinese culture that good, but saying they suck because of this is stupid. you view them as this because of their culture, why don't u look at your own then.

i don't go around and say that even though i have many friends that hates Chinese for this.

Stop being an hypocrite who pretends to care about the animal right, instead think about the human right in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I bet most of those Yankees must believe that the lives of their pets worth more than the lives of those innocent Muslims.
