Anil Ambani pumps Rs 5,000 cr more for Pipavav shipyard
Kalyan Ray , New Delhi, July 17, 2015, dhns

Four months after acquiring Pipavav Shipyard, Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani has announced pumping in Rs 5,000 crore in the Gujarat-based yard, so that it can bid for the construction of not only small ships but even the larger warships for the Indian Navy.

“We will invest an additional Rs 5,000 crore over the next few years as part of our commitment towards indigenisation efforts,” Ambani said at a navy-industry seminar, while showcasing the yard’s capabilities and future plans.

With more than 30 lakh square feet of covered area for fabrication and integration, Pipavav was perhaps the largest single location defence manufacturing facility in India, he said. It has also India’s largest dry dock.

Navy officials, however, are dissatisfied with Pipavav’s performance, which was given Rs 2,974 crore contract in May, 2011 to build five offshore patrol vessels for the navy. The yard has missed several deadlines including the one in June 2015.

Almost the same time, Goa Shipyard Limited was given another order to manufacture four OPV. The public sector unit delivered all of them in time. The last one was commissioned in August 2014.

However, Ambani, who acquired Pipavav with an investment of Rs 819 crore in March, said Reliance was committed to make it a global centre of excellence in ship building. “This facility will be capable of delivering all requirements of the Indian Navy from frigates to aircraft carrier to submarines,” he said.

Underscoring the importance of partnership, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar asked the Navy to consider the industrial houses as business partners, rather than maintaining a buyer-supplier relation.

Metro is the latest, he drags everyone to court for every petty issues ...he wanted to name Mumbai Metro as Reliance Metro, he wanted fare to be revised from current 10 to 110...he delayed the project and blamed MMRDA and other govmt authorities including Railways...

Not to forget, he used to give front page advertisement everyday to defame his brother's company RPL...

His looted the shareholder under RNRL, the company which doesnt exists any more and he had promised big projects under RNRL like Cement plans and alll....it was a fake company!

His company Reliancy Energy erswhile BSES is trying all possible things including legal cases to ensure they dont face competition from Tata Power..

He can survive only when he has a monopoly, when he has to face a competition he is a complete failure...look at RCom... and his personal wealth ..how much it was when he divided the family empire and how much is today....and see how much Mukesh is worth today.

He applied and got many UMPP...see how many of them are actualy completed...he seriously lacks focus and ability to complete greenfield projects in time unlike his brother and father!

Reliance Naval Engineering Ltd. delay

Asked about the long delay by Reliance Naval Engineering Ltd. in delivering Naval Offshore Patrol Vessels , Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba asserted that there was “no preferential treatment” for the company. While the contract had not been cancelled, the Navy was examining the issue to see what could be done.

“Reliance Naval Engineering Ltd. is undergoing corporate debt restructuring. Ambani's are being taken to court by their banker IDBI,” Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba said, adding that Reliance Naval Engineering Ltd.’s bank guarantee had been encashed and that punitive action was being taken.

In 2011, Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering was given a ₹2,500-crore order for five NOPVs but work never started as the shipyard got into debt and was subsequently taken over by Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence. While the first NOPV was to have been delivered in early 2015, as per the original schedule, no deliveries have been made till date.
