DADA country India itself is not only famous for minting counterfeit money and sponsoring terrorism, it is also famous for building fencidile factories near BD border and then smuggling this poison to BD. And RAW has sent many Indian terrorists to BD, many of them have been arrested in the last few months.

We already have many Indian immigrants in BD, so do not send them any more under the pretext of transit. We do not need anything attached to poisonous India. Transit is out of question. So, would you mind asking your Delhi govt to get rid of this transit dream. No BD govt would grant it, because then that govt will fall. Tell your govt to learn more about international relationship.

No, you are mistaken. Nobody is ranting here. If the AH is not there to follow a Benapole-BD-Burma route, then there will be no AH in BD, you can rest assured about it. BD people are not against AH, but against a transit for India through BD to its NE. By the way, read one more news below. You will see how India is desparate to get an access via BIMSTEC platform. India is not taking any risks by depending upon the AH, you will notice.

Now, the hypocrite India has started weeping on the sufferings of landlocked countries like Nepal and Bhutan, when this hypocrite did not heed to their continuous requests to allow transit thru India to BD in the past. Indian govt people are no greater than the ant-like small minded posters I find in this Forum. You are small, but living on a continent-like big country.

I must remind you, a small impovershed country named Bangladesh had, in the past, proposed that a small part of Bay of Bengal must be alloted (as Exclusive Economic Zone) to these two small HINDU landlocked countries. Our fundamental principle is not to bully others, but to help in whatever form it is possible. Yours is a completely different approach.

This is why our ant-sized country does not like to give any concession to your goliath-sized DADA country. Instead of bragging for belonging to a big country, you should feel ashamed of the mean-minded attitude of your govt.

An agreement on Trade in Goods under the BIMSTEC Free Trade Area, providing for regional transit facilities among member countries with certain bias towards landlocked ones, is likely to be signed at the upcoming BIMSTEC ministerial meeting.

The 12th ministerial meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is scheduled to be held in Myanmar capital, Nay Pyi Taw, in the latter part of the next month, sources in the commerce ministry said.

'The parties agree to consider transit facilities for promoting effective intra-BIMSTEC trade, especially for the landlocked member countries,' reads the article-9, under the caption of 'Goods in Transit' of the proposed agreement.

Besides, three more agreements relating to trade facilitation and Customs cooperation would be placed at the ministerial meeting for signing, commerce ministry sources said.

Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan are the member countries of the BIMSTEC and signatories to the Framework Agreement on the BIMSTEC Free Trade Area.

The BIMSTEC was signed in 1997 and the Agreement on the BIMSTEC FTA was signed in February 2004.

Trade officials said the delegation of Bangladesh during the last negotiations all along resisted inclusion of the issue of transit in the final draft agreement, but failed to withstand pressures from some other member countries.

"We (Bangladesh) could include clauses in our interest at the time modalities relating to implementing bilateral transit deal under the agreement on Trade in Goods," a Tariff Commission official told the FE.

Separate agreements between member countries on modalities of transit facilities to be signed later once the proposed agreement on Trade in Goods is signed at the next ministerial meeting, sources said.

The draft agreement, which was finalized in July at the 18th Trade Negotiating Committee meeting in New Delhi, is set to be placed at the cabinet meeting soon for approval, sources said.

"We have to complete the formalities like approval of the cabinet and vetting by the law ministry before the scheduled BIMSTEC Ministerial meeting in October," a top official in the commerce ministry told the FE.

The Article-15 of the proposed agreement has tried to remove non-tariff barriers often erected in the name of sanitary and phyto-sanitary measure (SPS).

'The parties shall ensure that their SPS measures are not used as unnecessary obstacles to trade while providing appropriate level of protection of human, animal or plant life or health in the territories of the parties,' reads the final draft of the agreement.

The agreement mentioned that if any member country used subsidies and countervailing measures would have to comply with relevant rules of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

A joint committee will be formed under the agreement to oversee the implementation status of the agreement, which is likely to be effective from January1 2010 the draft agreement said.

The special and differential (S&D) treatment will be given for least developed countries (LDCs) under the trade pact, sources said.

The special treatment will be offered to LDCs at the time of fixing value addition criteria to be determined later, trade officials said.

According to the negotiated draft of the agreement on Trade in Goods, duty reduction among member countries will begin from July 1, 2010.

Three developing member countries of the trade block--India, Sri Lanka and Thailand, will implement full duty exemption facility for products originating from four LDCs-Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar, to their markets, by June 30, 2011.

On the other hand, according to the same agreement, LDCc falling under the trade pact will give the similar duty facility to the developing member countries by June 30, 2013.

The duty reduction will be implemented as per the 'negative' list concept, the draft said.

And the article you posted talks about signing the pact....and not going against it....so your Government has decided in favor of Asian Highway,.....and your opinion does not hold any value for your Countries Government....thats why you come here waste your time...ranting out anti India ....BS...:flame:

india was ready to give route from pakistan to bangladesh in ASEAN summit why would she wont allow route from nepal and bhutan to bangladesh.

Why do you I am simply ranting? Read the title of the news. It says only of possibility of signing a BIMSTEC treaty granting connectivity to the landlocked countries like Nepal and Bhutan. Decision has not yet been made. It is obvious that India is playing its backdoor game to get its own connectivity to the NE by weeping for the landlocked countries.

Why does not India itself unilaterally give these two countries access to sea, and to the SE asian countries through its NE? Why it is necessary to involve BIMSTEC? After knowing Kautilla minds for many centuries, we know the way of Indian thinkings. So, do not hide behind the word 'ranting.'

Because the decision has not been made....this means India is playing back door Game...What is your solution to connect to Bhutan to Nepal....without inflating the goods to be transported....I know ...we will go through Burma,.. then China...and then to Bhutan and Nepal...:undecided:.just because you hate India you want your country to pay the price of that....nothing else...

SAARC (not ASEAN) involves Pakistan, but Pakistan is not a member of BIMSTEC. Through SAARC India wants transit to Afghanistan thru Pakistan. So, it is reciprocated by a proposed Pakistan-Nepal-BD transit route under SAARC platform.

But, through BIMSTEC, India wants, in reality, connectivity with its own semi-landlocked NE thru BD. But it talks about the exit routes for the landlocked Nepal and Bhutan instead of talking openly about its own access to the NE.

I hope you were not on a moon mission for the last few years. Of course, India has always been requesting land transit through BD for many years under a BI-LATERAL treaty, but BD population are against giving it because India is not willing to solve many other bi-lateral issues. Please read other posts above to know some more details about those pending issues.

So, India is trying to get the transit facility via other platforms like Asian Highway and lately via BIMSTEC.

If we say anything that does not suit the majority indian what they like to hear it is crap. Govt. of Bangladesh does not have any choice and it was suppose to go through Burma not India.
