A single Akash missile has an 88% Probability of kill.
So there is some probability of missing a target.

And to add the Kill Probability of Akash is better or comparable to the best US and western SAMs.

The Kill Probability increases to 97% if two Akash missile are despatched against a single target.

Further, the report says the flight was normal .... there is always a 1 in 8 missile, which fired alone to a target will fail to hit it.

The kill probability with a single missile can be increased but at a significant cost increase .... this trade off, always happens when we move from the domain of "science" to "engineering".

If 8 planes approach, and Akash kills 7 of them .... it's pretty much worth it.

If a formal war, rarely does a single attacking "stray" plane participate in an "attack".

Futher, even for a "stray" plane in peace time operations .... two Akash SAMs would kill it with a 97% probability. (off course, our cost will be twice now).

Guys... it does not make sense to increase the Kill Probability of a single missile to say 94% at 3 or 4 times cost increase .... this is a practice the world follows.
