Air China Successfully Tests Flight With Bio Fuel Mix

Air China today successfully conducted its trial flight of a passenger plane powered by a mix of bio-fuel and traditional aviation fuel, which in the near future could help the country to overcome crude oil shortages.

The Boeing 747 landed safely at Beijing Capital International Airport at 9:30 am, local time, after using up more than 10 tonnes of bio-fuel.

Analysts believe the successful trial indicates that bio-fuel will become an alternative energy option for commercial passenger flights in the near future, state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

After the test, Zhang Hongying, an official with the Civil Aviation Administration of China, proclaimed that bio-fuel was now ready to be used for commercial flights.

Sun Li, General Manager of the China National Aviation Fuel Group Corporation, a large state-owned supplier of aviation fuel, said the fuel used was a 50-50 mix.

Air China, Vice President, He Li said the composition and the burning efficiency of the fuel had been tested as well as its impact on the engines.

The bio-fuel used in the trial flight was produced from the seeds of tung trees.

Shen Diancheng, a Vice President of Petro China Company Ltd, said it had taken Petro China 10 years to overcome the technical barriers of converting the oil extracted from the seeds to fuel that could power airplanes.

He said that the trees from whom the seeds were harvested were not planted on arable land, rather they were grown on mountain hills and wasteland.

the west actually leads in this area``however those ****** rich petrol monopolies hire a huge team of lobb to prevent any possibility of it replacing fossile feul or force them to drop the price`

Thats right..
But still keep on improving we are aslo trying our level best..

this is a huge deal.

if china can grow this tung tree on mountain hills as a replacement for conventional fuel in PLANES, it will save alot of money for china.

electric vehicles for AUTOMOBILES uses lithium batteries. china has huge lithium reserves. 3rd largest reserves already found.

HIGH SPEED RAIL uses electricity.

solar, wind and nuclear power can give electricity for homes and industries and everything else.

all of these renewable energy will reduce china's dependence on fossil fuels but at the same time china will continue to explore for offshore oil and gas and tap the massive shale gas within china which has the largest reserves in the world.

china also has massive rare earth reserves. a huge bonus.

all of these will help give china energy security.

food security, energy security, water security, raw material security, financial security and military security are 6 vital areas for any nation's national security.

Bio fuel is nice but nothing exciting. Next-generation nuclear energy is the real thing. Both China and India are doing pretty well in this area.

1) China is developing thorium fuelled molten salt reactor, which is of significantly reduced high active waste production and excellent resource utilization, in Shanghai. Dr. Jiang Mianheng initiated this project LOL. I kinda love Jiang Zemin's insight in energy industry. India is also one of the leading countries of thorium-based technologies.

2) A fast breeder reactor has been hooked up to the state power grid last year.

3) China is building world first commercial high-temperature gas-cooled nuclear reactor in Shidaowan Shandong.

4) We are also funding research on accelerator-driven system subcritical reactor meant for destroying isotopes contained in the used fuel from a conventional nuclear reactor.

5) ITER participation. Our EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) is the only full superconducting tokamak in the world.

6) 40 years' work in inertial confinement fusion. SG-III has been been completed (48 beams,3ns,3ω,200kJ). This ignition facility is No.3 ICF facility in the world. It is expected to get operational in a few months. And the new ignition facility SG-IV (3ns,3ω,1.4MJ) comparable to NIF will be finished by 2020. ICF is also the key componnet of 4th-generation nuclear weapons.

Nevertheless China writes rules in some alternative energy areas.
1) 4 out of top 10 wind turbine manufacturers are Chinese compans (Sinovel, Goldwind, Dongfang, United Power).

2) 3 out of top 10 photovoltaic manufacturers are Chinese companies (GCL, LDK, LCY). And 8 out of top 10 solar module manufacturers are Chinese companies.

3) Three Gorge has the world's largest generating capacity. And we have more small hydro than any country in the world.

4) China is world’s third largest producer of ethanol bio-fuels.

The oil well will run dry soon and i do hope China starts the trend now.

Same here however it's a 200-300 years before that happens, in the mean time China is already investing in Solar, Wind, as well as this.

Good to see these kind of steps aimed at finding alternative to oil. It particularly is nice that these are going in Asia. Congrats to the Chinese on this and i hope we will share these efforts.

why is that`? fossile feul will run out one day`

It'll have a severe impact on food production. The world's population is already increasingly rapidly. Right now, the current rise in food prices is partly because of this bio-fuels trend.

Use nuclear rockets or reactors.

Bio fuel is cheap source as compared to oil and in few years oil will run short off so its a good to find alternative source of energy

The bio fuel craze several years ago severely influenced food prices around the globe. While China should devote some of its rresources in this area, it should not become a mainstay fuel source.

I still think commercial nuclear fusion power is the future of world's energy, and China must capitalize on that.

bio fuel is good but its will increase food prices
agree it may increase food prices but with proper planning prices can be controlled ........ after few years we need an alternative if oil so its better to start planning for that
