It is said that in 1791, the Qing government crushed the invasion of the Gurkhas army. Hundreds of missing Qing dynasty soldiers did not return to their native land after the war and remained in the border area. During the long years, these men and women lived together with people on the China-Nepal border. After more than 100 years of integration, the descendants of these people were called "Damans."

Another legend is that the people in this village are descendants of people who migrated from Nepal to Geelong Town. They have passed through six or seven generations. There are now 200 people in the village. They usually rely on blacksmiths, carpenters, bearing heavy burdens , and miscellaneous people. This is Daman. They have no nationality and are not recognized by the state as having no nationality at the time, nor do they know whether they are Chinese or Nepalese.

Because the Damans and the local Tibetans live together in the Geelong gully on the south wing of Mount Everest, although it is often difficult to identify them, as long as they look closely, they can recognize that their eyes are generally blue, large and deep.

They used to walk on the China-Nepal, Sino-Indian borders, have no nationality, no land and housing, and have been living in disarray. After being approved by the China State Council in 2003 to join the Chinese nationality, in 2004 the Chinese government officially accepted them as Chinese citizens.

In order to further improve the lives of Daman people, technical staff of the Jilong County Water Conservancy Bureau carried out field research on Daman Village and established a tap water project. In 2004, the local government invested more than 1 million yuan for all villagers. A two-story building with a civil structure was built and a school was built at the same time, free of tuition fees. The government also allocated farmland and livestock to each household.

Daman people can enjoy the same state subsidies as other local peoples in the country, for example, 3,500 yuan per year for each village cadre; each household male is selected as a forest ranger every year, and they are given a subsidy of 5,000 yuan each year; each person can receive 1,000 yuan each year. The subsidy for the border; Dibao has more than 1,400 yuan per person per year, as well as subsidy policies such as grassland ecological subsidies and compensation for wild animals.

In the village, a 68-year-old old man said that after learning that he had become a chinese citizen, he was very happy to say: “When I was a child, Dad brought me over here. I didn’t go back ever since. At that time, my nationality was not counted as China nor Nepal.I am very happy that we have got China Nationality."

Today, Geelong Gul has earned its reputation as the "second world paradise."

Gurkhas are Chinese now???
长的像藏人和印度人的混血了

The reality is the North of Nepal, India are Tibetan. So are Bhutanese and Sikkimese. Everyone speak a Tibetic lect, having similar lingustic distance as per U-Tsang (Lhasa), Amdo (Qinghai) and Kham (Sichuan).

These Tibetic people are given names like Sherpas, Ladakki, Dzongka, Lecha, Bhotia..etc, in order to create a new race and new identity and to make them forget they are "Chinese".

Tenzing Norgay was Tibet native migrated to Sherpa village, and later lied he born in Nepal. A Chinese scaling Mount Qomolangma is too difficult for white man to stomach.

When ancient Tibetan migrate further South, they further linguistically diverge, and they form races (actually surname) like Limbu, Rai, Gunung, Tamang... These are what we group them as Ghurkas. They have more mixture of "Indian" blood.

These brave warriors are Sino Tibetans and have nothing to do with Indians.

Nepal are dominated by India Aryan unfortunately especially those tribes in the Kathmandu valley, such as Pohari and Madhesi. They have nothing to do with Gurkas.

I can never understand why Mao Zedong wanted to withdraw troops from southern Tibet. Obviously, the People's Liberation Army has completely defeated northeastern and western India.

The territorial issue cannot be negotiated. Only the war can solve it.
The People's Liberation Army has won the war and has given up its territory. This is really incomprehensible.

Maybe Mao Zedong was in good intentions, but if he does not give up, today China and India have no territorial issues. China and India are good friends, not today for this territory. China does not trust India, India does not trust China, and even spends a huge amount of money to develop equipment and military forces against each other and benifit countries like US,UK,France the most.

Mao was a genius, of entire humanity. His decision to withdraw is 1000% correct. I draw roughly the Macmahon Lines. From Tawang side to Ganges-Brahma plains is 100km. This is about 1600km of mountains from West River Corridor (河西走廊) , the Chinese supply route.

China do not have motorizable road to Tawang, and even to 81-town, the road is barely motorizable.

That is to say China will lost the war of attrition if she hold on.

But today if China takes South Tibet, she can hold it. The infrastructure of Tibet now can support all weather massive troop movement and logistic.

However in the western Theatre of Pangong and Aksai Chin, China manage to kick Indian out. But due to restrain China, did not take Chusul. She also left part of Pangong to India.

That place is defensible for China, because while India is easier to supply than China, it is still quite difficult for India.

From all perspective, China is very magnanimous to India.

Mostly because he was scared of the retaliation. The Cuban missile crisis was over and Kennedy thru Galbraith had started sending India weaponry. So China withdrew unilaterally.
