What's new

After Statue of Unity, India to get world’s tallest Shiva Murti

Why do you like the Taj Mahal ? What is so special about it ?

I think it is beautiful.
But that is my PERSONAL taste.

What do you mean "last remnants of that history" ?

The only structures standing today in north India are the Muslim Tombs and Masjids built during Mughal days.

I meant the last remnants of Persian and Moghul history.

All the Hindu temples and structures have Long been destroyed. Most of our statues and art work have been smuggled out of India.

And therefore you need to rebuilt them.

So I fail to understand your dramatic call for "saving" history and Taj Mahal.

I am not being dramatic, I am stating my opinion.

Also I take exceptions to you mentioning my personal "like and dislike" for the Taj or any thing else.

Good for you.

What gives you the right to comment on such things ?

Me being a member of this forum.

Your prejudice based on stereotypes caricatured by the Media ?

No, my observations based on your posts.

I don't give a rat's @ss to what you want.

Well I do not expect you to give me a rat's @ss.
I do not want a rat's @ss.
I am satisfied with my own human @ss.

I am more concerned about improving the condition of my people, rather than have them carry the Taj as a white elephant, so that some Suriname Indian can feel better about himself.

I am not a Surinamese Indian, I am a Surinamese Hindustani.

But I would like to thank you.
You have shown that you are a typical arrogant Indian.

In The Netherlands, there are many like you.
They are arrogant and think that they are better than Surinamese Hindustanis.
The Indian Punjabi Sikhs are the worst.
But the Indian Hindus are also bad.
I do not like them.

In my family, only my mother is really religious.
My father, brother and sister are moderately religious.
I am actually not that religious, but I am or was more active in the Hindu community.

For one year I was even a member of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (http://hssnl.org/).
This is one of the international organisations of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
So yes, I was, for one year, a international sanghi. :D
Every week I went to shakha.
I went there, not for Hindu nationalism, but because I believed in a worldwide Hindu family.
(Just like many Pakistanis here on PDF believe in a Muslim Ummah)
I was wrong.
(Just like many Pakistanis :D)

I do have moments where I want to defend other Hindus (regardless of their race) as I did in this article and the other article (where the Jewish woman defames Hindus).
But now I think, why?
They are talking about Hindu Indians and not Surinamese Hindustani Hindus.
There is no Hindu Parivar, right?

I did not like most of the Indian Hindus who were part of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh shakhas.
In other Hindu organisations, on Internet fora and in real life, Indians were and are also annoying.
Because of the way Indian Hindus behaved towards Surinamese Hindustanis, I became conflicted.

I did want to be a Hindu, especially since certain Muslims, from Moroccan descent, have a problem with Hindus and Hinduism. This made me more defiant.

But on the other side I did not want to be a Hindu.
This was because of Indian Hindus.
I had no connection to them, they are arrogant and look down upon us.
So, why would I be part of a religion, where the people who come from the land where this religion began, act like that?

Therefore I do not think that I will be a Hindu anymore.
This is not something that I just thought of.
I have been conflicted for many years now (since 2008).
Especially in the last couple of days.

When I think about my identity, just a couple of weeks ago I used to think of myself as a Surinamese Hindustani Hindu. But for the last couple of days it changed and from now on, I think I will identify myself only as a Surinamese Hindustani. :-)

So you do not have to worry that I will interfere with the matters of Indian Hindus from now on.
It's all good. :-)

India does not need a "new" civilization. We are the oldest surviving civilization on the planet and we plan to keep it that way.

When I said civilisation, i meant kingdoms and not so much human settlement.

And No "Taj Mahal" is going to keep us from reclaiming our present and our future.

Well, what will you do about it?
Destroy the Taj Mahal?

Brilliant.

We need more of this all over India to celebrate our heroes.

From my region, here is Tallapaka Annamayya - a great poet
Listening to his songs, man o man - divine

We really need statues of local legends and celebrate them with gutso.

WTF has Nehru, Gandhi, Indira etc done to South India?
NOTHING.

Why do we have statues, roads, schools, etc named and built after them?
Shouls destroy all these useless people's remembrance and build local heroes and propagate them.

The same issue exists between Fiji "Indians" and Indian Indians in Australia. Except for a minority, they 2 communities , dont get on , they hate each other and function as different entities. I believe this is due to the Indians racism ingrained in their culture, that despises and looks down upon others who dont look, speak or act like them. The Tamils in India face the same problem except for the Tamil Brahmins.

This attitude is prevalent amongst PDF Indians

Your life story is pretty interesting. Unfortunately as people become more fascist, internal divisions like this will become more pronounced.

Where are most Suriname Hindustanis from? Do you have Muslims in your community?

I know that most people of Indian descent in Trinidad and Guyana are from Bihari, so they tend to be dark and a little Asian looking similar to Bengalis.

As a big Nation sometimes you need to left your legacy, identity or your greatness for your future children. Indonesia itself build many large statue and complexes, with Nationalism and identity seeking as a drive. For examples

Who is the last statue of?

His legacy still lives on.

Afghanistan? Yes. But the rest of his empire isn't doing that bad, most notably Lahore (his winter capital).

Not quite, but it's getting there.

It wasn't just Central Asians. Iranians, Afghans, Pakistanis and even Indians fought in his army (obviously these nations didn't exist back then, I'm only using modern terminology to make the conversation more smooth).

If there was a rematch today, the result would be nuclear genocide. Nobody would win.

Where?Cant see any legacy.Well some hindu fanatics over here took inspiration and did a babri, not sure if he wanted that as a legacy.
His homeland ghazni is a wasteland infested by war.He burnt lahore, lol.Torched the city and sold its inhabitants into slavery or massacred them.Thats what he did to your ancestors.

Ghazni's army was mostly central asian turkics (ghulam/mamluk cavalry) from modern day turkemenistan, uzbekistan, kazakhstan bolstered by local afghan tribesmen and later indian mercenaries. Not sure where nuclear genocide comes from.If you want to become that rematch guy yourself, don't worry we already had that rematch. With your population and size reduced by half in 1971.

We don’t accept Hindu propaganda as history.

Many of the greatest generals, administrators, and statesmen of Ghaznavi empire were the ancestors of Pakistanis.

Lahore was built into a splendid winter capital and Islamic culture flourished.

Ghaznavi state was a pious and focused state filled with Islamic Sufi warriors called Ghazis. He restored the confidence of the people in Islam. Mahmud e Ghaznavi made modern-day Pakistan exceedingly wealthy and modern.

This is why we are thankful to him.

Please name some of these men.All his generals were turkish ghulams,he himself was teh son of subuktugin- a mamluk. The islamic scholars themselves describe the sack of lahore.Either way how you want to view him is your prerogative, not mine.So you are welcome to hero worship him.

Let him dwell in the splendor of his imagination, like a heroin addict dwells in the caves of Kublai Khan believing that what he imagines is indeed the truth :D

It amazes me that Pakistan names missiles and stuff after people who ransacked and looted their country. Perhaps someday in the future, France will name a missile after Hitler, just to spite Russia :D

As I live in the US, I don’t have access to such books. You may want to ask a Pakistani member for more details.

Which Islamic scholars describe him that way?

As I see it, Mahmud e Ghaznavi is universally idolized as the perfect Muslim rulers, statesman, and conqueror. We have many stories in our civilization about him and his wazir Ayyaz.

Quite a wild imagination you have.

Discussing the greatness of our hero-king Mahmud e Ghaznavi is pretty mainstream throughout Islamic civilization, stories about him are told from Morocco and Albania all the way to Indonesia and Nigeria.

Prince Diponegoro, Javanese royalty well known because his war against Netherland

Great hero. I just read about him now.

I like the way he is portrayed as a Middle Eastern Islamic hero with turban, costume, sword, and horse. Reminds me of the statue of Salahuddin in Syria.

So now you guys want to concentrate on a large statue? If it doesn't serve a purpose...As you clearly stated then why waste ANY money no matter where it is from!
haha nope, I'm just talking about idol worshipping (the ones in temples) since you said some Hindus don't pray to statues.

Also, the money is not wasted, nobody is burning cash here. The money is spent on something that doesn't depreciate in value, making it a tourism spot is good for the local economy. And these statues are symbolic, I guess @Nityam has answered almost all the questions relating to that.

Well, the style of Javanese muslim at the times is like that, look at contemporary Dutch painter at the time like Nicolas pieneman, depicts the surrender of Diponegoro.
