‘After 70 Years I’ve Come to Realize as a Muslim I Can’t Live in India’: Naseeruddin Shah

How is it fair to affix the title of Traitor to the descendant of a British ally ??

By that measure, the descendants of 18th century Marathas and Kodavas should be also punished as they allied with the Britishers against Tipu Sultan.

Let us not forget that Naseeruddin's brother served in the Indian Army at a high position and other members of his family were in high government service. He says so in the vid in the OP.

I wish all the misery on Indian secularists...They had a chance to fashion a true blue secularism where the Scientific Mindset, Enlightenment Ideas, scepticism towards Yogic superpowers,Islamic miracles,Christian resurrection would flourish...A proper French style secularism..what we got instead was a Laff-A-Lympics style secularism where every religion was cranked to the maxx.....We have this sort of secularism to blame for pseudoscientific gurus like Sadhguru and complete terrorist nut cases like Dr.Zakir Naik

Bhugto....

What we would have needed was an RSS of rationalists

Marathas allied with the British to take down Tipu who had a French base in Mysore. Indians were free under Maratha's rule. It was Indians ruling Indians. Hindus ruling majority Hindus.

Naseeruddin sha's ancestor sided with the british when Indians were fighting for their independence from foreign rule.

The two are worlds apart.

Naseeruddin's brother served in the IA, but tried to sabotage Smiti Irani when she was HRD minister and he was VC of AMU. And tried to srake up the Godhar riot before elections. But that is his right, but it also shows his political leaning and Anti Hindutva mindset.

In any case how can Naseeruddin or his children piggy bank on the shoulders of his elder brother

I don't want to derail this thread further but Dr. Israr Ahmad and other Deobandis provided a huge intellectual base for many of the arguments used by militant recruiters for anti-State attacks in Pakistan.

This point is not true. Dr. Israr openly called such groups, notably TTP, as Indian agents. He declared jihad against the Pakistani state not only wicked, but termed it as kufr. He, along with the other scholars I mentioned, are fervent nationalists.

You have to realize many Deobandis here view Pakistan as a sacred state, founded by the barkat of the Almighty, therefore those who are anti-state have problems with their aqeedah and are pawns of the enemies of Islam.

This is totally different from Indian Deobandis whose whole philosophy is based on appeasing Hindu radicals and condemning Pakistan.

Only exception in Pakistan is JUI/H which still maintains strong ties and its anti-Pakistan rhetoric in both states.

Deobandis have always functioned as the Sunni intelligentsia in Pakistan, and most of their support is derived from middle class to upper-middle class religious Pakistanis who live and work in major cities.

Their movement began as a reaction to open shrine worship, asking from peers, and total control of the population by religious charlatans.

It is an intellectual movement, which can be distantly traced to Dar ul Uloom Deoband, but it is much bigger than that.

Taliban, for example, take our Deobandi intelligentsia as their own. They regularly seek advice from Pakistani scholars on fiqh issues and policy, just like they did with Mufti Taqi Usmani before his foiled assassination attempt by Iran.
