What's new

Afghanistan again complained to UN Against Pakistan - 2019 .

Even if Afghanistan doesn't recognize the Durand line, why does that concern you and Pakistan? At the end of the day the major stake holders of KPK are the Pashtuns that live there, if they all tomorrow didn't want to be apart of Pakistan you wouldn't be able to stop that from happening. Fortunately for Pakistan, most of the Pashtuns in Pakistan prefer to be with Pakistan even when Afghanistan had its golden years.

I am not going to deny that Afghanistan has been against Pakistan from its conception and it was mainly because of KPK, but our attempts to take KPK away were unsuccessful because our aim was purely nationalistic in nature and the Pashtuns in KPK understood this which is why they were the main ones who fought against us, so long as the Pakistan sticks to its foundation of being an Islamic nation then I doubt we will be able to touch KPK as men in general subscribe more to ideology than they do to nationalistic aims, which is why Nasers (Egypt) Pan Arabism was unsuccessful against King Faisals Pan-Islamism.

Now before there was enmity between both of our nations due to the lack of brotherhood that is shared between Muslim nations, we were way too westernized, however I doubt this enmity will be there after the Islamic government is established, and the sentiments of Afghanistan after it becomes a fully Islamic nation will eventually carry onto Pakistan and you can witness a unity like never before.

Here in Canada actually, I have friends from all nations, Guyana, Pakistan, Egypt, Tanzania, Iran, however because we only look at each other as Muslims we don't care which nationality either one of us belongs to, we only care if we are Muslim or not. My dream InshAllah is to see this happen throughout the Muslim world.
i respect ur personal views but y it concerns Pakistan that Afghanistan dont accept durand line ? i mean really ? if a country has a claim on around 50 percent of ur area would u have a normal relations ? if building blocks / base of relations are on mis trust/no respect of territorial integrity no one can build trustful/normal relations . N these are not relations after 2001 or 1979 its from the start ie 14 August 1947 . I Hope in relations between two countries you understand about respect of territorial sovereignty . we Pakistani in entire world love Ummah concept v much . Stay Blessed .

Indeed, I also believe our relationship is multi-faceted where religion and ethnicity go hand in hand.

We are one qawm, who have been united for most of our history. It was only until British occupation that we were disunited forcefully. It went so far that those caught teaching Dari and most of our learned men were forcibly put to death by the British.

This map constitutes more-or-less one nation with a common history, culture, heritage, religious outlook, and civilization.

The Durrani Empire

I agree mate. I will actually go as far and say that instead of Urdu we should have had Dari as our national language.

I wouldn't mind Afghanistan and Pakistan united as one nation, but it must be a Islamic unity, not any other kind of unity and it mustn't be done through force but by the will of the people and that must include all of Afghanistan, and even then Pakistan itself must become a Sharia state right after Afghanistan becomes one, and we can call the unity of Afghanistan and Pakistan a completely new state.

However the pre-condition to that unity must be Islam and Sharia, which must be implemented in both countries first before anything. We must get rid democracy in both nations, and go by the system of Allah revealed to Mohammad (SAW). Otherwise I don't think any Afghan would accept a unity without Islam as a pre-condition.

General Hamid Gul also shared this view, that eventually after Islamic system is established in Afghanistan that it will eventually come to Pakistan

Pakistan is actually made for Muslims so it inherently never was created with nationalist thought in mind. So if Afghan nation wants to merge we can still call it pakistan instead of sindhistan, baluchistan, pashtunistan or afghanistan. It will be a more simpler step of including pashtun areas from afghan side in Pakistan because other nationalities may not be as forthcoming to the idea and merge would never realize. Imagine the power of pakhtuns in pakistan if that happens (if at all you subscribe to the ideals of pashtun as a national identity).

Assalam alaikum brother.

Please post more, I would like to read more of what you have to say.

It is a breath of fresh air for everyone to read your sentiments.

There are also people like me who believe Afghanistan and Pakistan are the same country, and it will take Islamic unity to do that.

Pakistan was founded on Islam and the strength/power of Muslim history, and if Afghanistan drops secular nationalism in favor of Islam, there will be no difference between us two.

Some prominent Pakistani thinkers and scholars had/have the same ideas as you. Chaudry Rehmat Ali, Allama Iqbal, Hamid Gul, Dr. Israr Ahmad, Orya Maqbool Jan, Dr. Shahid Masood, and even our PM Imran Khan.
brother you have included some folks in the same breath that actually does not belong together. When talking about likes of Chaudhary Rehmat Ali, Allama Iqbal, Israr ahmad, there is no need to include folks like shahid massed and even Mr Orya maqbool. I don't doubt the latters intent, but they are definitely not the thinkers of same level as the one like Allama, Chaudhary sahib and Dr. Israr.

I don't like going down this train of thought as it sparks nationalism, but InshAllah I will try to my best to give a truthful answer.

When Pakistan was first established Afghanistan should have recognized Pakistan, but did not because of KPK, back then in Afghanistan Pashtun nationalism was fervent and they wanted to include KPK as part of that or at least make it autonomous. When the British were leaving they gave the Pashtuns a choice of either being with Pakistan or India, some wanted to be independent such as IPI faqir, Khan of Jandool, and others, while the majority voted to be with Pakistan, this led to frictions between both PAK and AFG, however the Pashtuns in KPK decided to be with Pakistan and that should have been the end of it, but unfortunately it was not and Afghanistan took an aggressive stance against Pakistan which soured our relations, however the Pashtuns who opted to be with Pakistan defended it against Afghanistan and I'll quote...

"The dispute, though flared up again at the end of 1958 in the wake of General Ayub Khan's military coup. Despite being a Pashtun, Ayuab had no time for Pashtunistan. In the crackdown that followed his declaration of martial law, 'Abd al-Ghaffar Khan and other Red Shirt leaders were once more arrested. The Afghan government demanded their release and when this was not forthcoming, 15000 tribal irregulars marched into Bajur in September 1960 claiming they were supporting the Khan of Jandool against his rival the Khan of Khar. Bitter fighting followed between pro-Afghan and pro-Pakistan militias, while Pakistan's America warplanes bombed Afghan positions and even conducted a raid inside Afghan territory." Page 555-556 History of Afghanistan by Jonathan L. Lee.

Why Afghanistan continued to pursue this policy of Pashtunistan is beyond me since it was mainly the Pashtuns who defended Pakistan against Afghanistan's policies, and it is also mainly the Pashtuns today who are defending Pakistan against Pashtunistan sentiments, they realized Pakistan was made on the basis of Islam whereas Afghanistan wanted to united it on the basis of Pashtun nationalism. But I ask such Afghans, if you want to unite those Pashtun areas on the basis of nationalism then what about every other nationality that lives in Afghanistan, such as the Pashai, Tajiks, Aimaqs, Uzbeks, Hazaras? Nationalism I believe is fitna and a hypocritical mindset, if you are going to be a qom parast or a nationalists then what about everyone else who was not born in that nation or qawm?

This is also the reason why Islam will always win against such sentiments because there is no truth in nationalism, and this is why I also say that if Afghanistan and Pakistan are going to one day unite it shouldn't be because we share a common history or are a common people, but because we are Muslims. This why I said in the beginning that the major stake holders of KPK are the Pashtun, and so long as they remain loyal to Islam then they are not going to betray Pakistan for the sake of nationalism.

Pakistan is actually made for Muslims so it inherently never was created with nationalist thought in mind. So if Afghan nation wants to merge we can still call it pakistan instead of sindhistan, baluchistan, pashtunistan or afghanistan. The problem with that my brother is that I believe it will cause resentments, Afghans today identify themselves as Afghans while Pakistanis identify themselves as Pakistani, if Afghanistan merged with Pakistan instead of both countries unifying as it would be a mutual relationship then the foundations on which Pakistan was built would still remain and the forces of secularism and democracy will still be there to haunt future generations. The reason why I would like to see a clean new slate is that I would like to see the foundations of this new nation based solely on Sharia and Islam, not on secularism or democracy, that way future generations wouldn't have to deal with these nuisances. And this is not a matter of Pashtun and other nationalities, I myself am part Tajik and part Pashto, but I identify as Muslim first and if the rest of Afghanistan followed Sharia and Islam then they too would be open to unification.
