Afghan forces 'kill Taliban fighters' in Sangin

This is what I have notice:

Dog Bites a Man’ Is Not News. ‘Man Bites a Dog’ Is News

Since 2014 Afghan security forces are defending the territorial integrity of their country, but that hardly becomes headline news, but when the Taliban’s are on the offensive, it becomes headline news.

Please don't bring your sexual frustration on a public forum, although its understandable when your situation is no better than an eunuch. Now go on eBay and purchase a flashlight toy, instead of wasting precious internet bandwidth.

US aircraft have carried out two attacks in Sangin, the district in southern Afghanistan overrun by Taliban fighters this week.

The official statement came as the battle for the strategic Afghan province of Helmand continued.

"US forces conducted two strikes in Sangin on December 23 against threats to the force," a spokesman for the military coalition said on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan's government sent reinforcements to help besieged forces as the Taliban claim to have taken control of almost all of Sangin.

The Taliban spokesperson, Zabiullah Mujahid, said on Wednesday that their fighters had seized the entire district including police and military installations and their flags had been raised.

However, Helmand's deputy governor, Mohammad Jan Rasoolyar, denied the claim.

"We are still fighting to push back the Taliban. Parts of Sangin are under the Taliban control but not the police and military installations," he told Al Jazeera.

"The military planes have dropped food and supplies to the Afghan forces on ground."

The UK Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday that British troops had been deployed to the province to support local forces after the Afghan Defence Minister called for a desperate international support and air cover.

"As part of the UK’s ongoing contribution to NATO’s Resolute Support Mission, a small number of UK personnel have been deployed to Camp Shorabak in Helmand Province in an advisory role," a spokesman said.

"In total the UK has around 450 troops in Afghanistan mentoring and supporting the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces and the Afghan Security Ministries."

Sangin has seen more than 100 British troops losing their lives during the decade long combat mission in Afghanistan.

The Taliban statement regarding the British troops deployment said that before entering Afghanistan "they should have studied the history of their ancestors and should have learned a lesson from the repeated defeat".

"For that reason they would have not come with the intend to invade our country," the statement said.

"They were defeated even after the presence of thousands of troops and the same will happen with these few hundred troops, this means nothing else but a shameful humiliation for them.

"They have made no accomplishment even after fighting for the past 14 years. We are still strong."

David Sedney, a foreign policy analyst at the Wilson Center in Washington DC, told Al Jazeera that the Afghan army is showing its weakness.

"The Taliban have made big advances in Helmand province in summer and into the winter and the offensive is increasing," he said.

"They [Taliban] put a lot of fighters a lot of weapons in Helmand province that is right in the border with Pakistan and most of the fighters and weapons come across the border, there is nothing that stops them.

"The Afghan National Army core that was charged with the defending Helmand was the newest one and when the United States and NATO pulled back, they decided not the leave any serious advisors with them, just a few special forces troops, so you have force that is poorly equipped and is really struggling to survive."

No end to violence

The northern city of Kunduz briefly fell to the Taliban in late September - the biggest victory for the group in 14 years of war.

Earlier this week, a suicide bomber attacked a joint Afghan-NATO convoy near Bagram airbase near Kabul, killing six foreign soldiers and wounding three others.

The Taliban claimed responsibility.

"Of late, the Taliban has shown an extraordinary capability to launch major attacks on government forces. They have proven capable of using both guerrilla fighters and engaging in conventional warfare," Hashmatullah Moslih, Al Jazeera political analyst, said.

"At the same time, the government soldiers are static - sitting in their outposts defensively, effectively handing the initiative to the Taliban."

This month marks a year since the US-led NATO mission in Afghanistan transitioned into an Afghan-led operation, with allied nations assisting in training local forces.

US President Barack Obama announced in October that thousands of US troops would remain in Afghanistan past 2016, keeping the current force of 9,800 troops, amid a surge in Taliban attacks.

Don't worry...RAW is very active there....

1) When Afghanistan continues to pursue the doctrine of contesting the border of the Durand Line, then Pakistan will use any means necessary to weaken its internal structure and this is realpolitik in international relations theory.
2) The Taliban fighters who do escape into Pakistan normally hide in refugees camps, therefore by taking these citizens back into there own country two birds can be killed with one stone. Preventing safe havens in Pakistan and the Government in Islamabad can focus its resources on the indigenous population rather than foreigners.
3) Since certain elements within the NDS are supporting the TTP, then its only natural to return the gesture in kind in the form of the Taliban.
4) Every time we reject Kabul's proposal on Indian trade politicians in the Northern Alliance faction make bold and aggressive statements towards Pakistan, thus the ISI loves to remind them of there place in the food chain hierarchy.

Aah. So if Afghanistan does not do what Pakistan wants, then Pakistan will create problems via the Taliban. And Afghanistan will support the TTP. And the famed PA and ISI are unable to control refugee camps in Pakistan, which are safe havens for Taliban?

So can we safely assume that there are good Taliban and bad Taliban, as per your books? Good Taliban, which acts according to the requirements of Pak policy and bad Taliban which acts against Pak policy?

Why should I feel frustrated when:

1) 1200 ANSF have died in Helmand in the last three months, in which the Government was 200 coffins short
2) 4000 Solders are deserting each month
3) Unemployment is so high that people are leaving the country
4) Iran and Russia are talking to the Taliban, because they want to create an alliance to fight ISIS in Afghanistan
5) Pakistan has been asking for more than a decade for all relevant parties to negotiate with the Taliban and now this is finally occuring. Even the State Department of America in early 2015, took the Taliban off its lists of foreign terrorists organizations.

Really? The US took Afghan Taliban off their terrorist list. Any links to support this?

When Afghanistan continues to be aggressive towards Pakistan and does not accept the Durand Line, then its only natural to assume that we will burn Kabul for another 100 years. The NDS has been supporting the TTP for a number of years, however this bargaining chip has become weakened against Pakistan, since as a fighting force the TTP have been dislodged from our territory. Terrorism related incidences have decreased by 70% and next year the figure will improve drastically as majority of the attacks transpired between January-May. Now the regime in Kabul we have to accept our terms otherwise we will throw them into sea where the sharks can feast on there carcass. There are 10 million refugees in Pakistan and the PA or the ISI does not control these camps and the people residing there shelter the Taliban in some cases.

The Taliban are a political reality in Afghanistan and even your friend's in Iran and Russia are now considering to do an alliance with them to defeat ISIS. The Pakistani Taliban have no links with the Haqqani Network, which runs the show in Afghanistan and any group will be used by our state to achieve the security and the national interests of Pakistan. The concept good and bad does not simple exists at the state craft level.

does not accept the Durand Line,
Still in your dreams? even talis dont recognize the durand line.

After the collapse of the pro-Soviet Afghan government in 1992, Pakistan obviously being aware of article 2 of the Durand Line Agreement, where it mentions "The Government of India (Pakistan) will at no time exercise interference in the territories lying beyond this line on the side of Afghanistan", created a puppet state in Afghanistan run by the Taliban.[35] According to a summer 2001 report in The Friday Times, even the Taliban leaders challenged the very existence of the Durand Line when former Afghan Interior Minister Abdur Razzaq and a delegate of about 95 Taliban visited Pakistan.[36] The Taliban refused to endorse the Durand Line despite pressure from Islamabad, arguing that there shall be no borders among Muslims. When the Taliban government was removed in late 2001, the new Afghan President Hamid Karzai also began resisting the Durand Line.[37]

Thanks.

Remember it was Afghanistan which commenced destabilisation efforts against Pakistan after Pakistani indepence. This should not be forgotten.

True the Afghan Taliban did not recognize the Duran Line...but more importantly they did not allow Afghan soil to be used to destabilize Pakistan...

Its interesting How Taliban are being killed this year,
  1. Taliban take Some District or town stay in it for some days. Afghan Forces Suffer little or no Casualty.
  2. Pakistanis on Social Media and this forum rejoice like they got glimpse of heaven.
  3. Afghan Forces Set Up a Perimeter, Go in with US air support
  4. Talibs are literally killed like pigs, their corpses litter the streets. (300+ killed in Kunduz in 4 hours)
  5. Pakistanis Go quiet, Say Aghanistan is loosing ground to Talibs, the government is useless. etc etc
To be Honest the entire Drama being played out gives Two things,

a.The Pakistan Army has reasons to worry , thier duplicity is being exposed.

b. Afghans are playing it nicely, Draw them out in the open Kill them by the numbers, Soon with more training and equipment kill ratio will increase.

Ohh come on , The pakistan army has no worries as Pakistan has conducted successful operations in Waziristan and The talibans are all most finished in Pakistan , The indian army should worry alot , as there influence in Balochistan and as well as Afghanistan is finishing and why will Pakistan army have any interest in backing the Afghan taliban Peacefull Afghanistan will make help create peace in Pakistan .
