@Sandy-Nice to know that we have engineers like you at HAL.Can you explain to me as to why we(HAL-Nashik) produce only 15(I do not know the
exact number!) Su-30MKI's per year? Also have we added more composites to the 2011 MKI when compared to 2003 MKI as some say or has no change taken place(Structurally and also the avionics)??
There are many answers to this question :
First EOQ: Economic order quantity
HAL is a PSU not a government LAb and has to be a profitable venture. HAL is not provided any discounts by the MoD/Air force for being patriotic and producing a large quantity.
Approximate numbers of production is established by MoD/HAL/Planning Commission
HAL also has to maintain Overhaul lines for existing product
Apart from economic reasons, you dont want 20 aircrafts entering overhaul in the same period 10-15 years from now. SU 30MKI is a very complex and big aircraft so it pretty much dries up the entire manpower of HAL for production. Also Al31F is a very complex engine to manufacture.
No, we haven't added structural modification or change in material, because that will make the aircraft go through flight testing , IOC FOC all that stuff which will hinder production. Its better for the original designers of aircrafts to come up with upgrades working with HAL design teams to get it approved by IAF first and then enter production once every subsystem is tested.
