To defeat a missile, it mean either to outmaneuver it or distract it via countermeasures. It does not mean shot down the missile.

Whether the InAF's statement is true or not -- is a different debate.

Now as per reports they are saying that most of it were jammed .
Probably that is why it hit in inland ground area .Usually it wont miss the target

I was at an american defense forum and one member pointed out that the only way the IAF could have found the amraam fragment so quickly was embedded in the fuselage or wreckage of the SU30. Few their believe an f16 was shot down.
