Access to Electricity (% of population) in South Asia - Discussion

Hardly, Pakistan is about to double generation by 2019. India will need decades to double generation from current level.
Pakistan is doing great but need to take it as a challenge to do faster.India also had very bad penetration 4-5 years ago.And look at us now.
Once you get enough capacity lots of FDI,industries will be rolling around.

Lol Go Check Out The Indian Generation capacity You are No match For Indian generation capacity

India 326,841 MW are current capacity Lol We already in surplus GoI states that India does not need additional non-renewable power plants till 2027 with the commissioning of 50,025 MW coal based power plants under construction and additional 100,000 MW renewable power capacity

Your Electricity – total installed capacity: 23,928 -35000 MW

Your Not Even in a League My friend Its For big players

not really ,their politicans are as corrupt as they come and infrastructure is ridiculously ineffective . last year during ramadan their minister blamed India for the heat wave that killed 1600 people there.

they claimed "Indian coal factories in Gujarat was sending hot air to Pakistan"

So our previous govt also was corrupt. That's why it went to bonker in last 70 years.Thank god they are nowhere near politics at present..
At least we have some workaholics in department now..Also now we are now capable to make own reactors..
Pakistan is also getting enough funds & technologies from China. If they can manage it they could also do it..
But it's a matter of future "Could" "Would".

all i'm saying is if 1700 people died in India form problems that can be easily solved like freaking heat waves , non of our governments would point to the border and say they did it. at a state of emergency the government should provide free electricity and humanitarian aid , atleast for the snakes of vote, Pakistani politicians didn't give a rats *** until the death toll was too big to be ignored by international media

What 2019!!
The project was firstly started to make sure electricity accessibility reach 100% by 2019 but official Govt website says it will be achieved by last 2018 or first of 2019 highly..

According to Indian electrification, if one house in a village is electrified, that village is considered to be bought inside the grid. The infrastructure is there, so in future if anybody wants, they can have electricity too. State govt must convince people to have electricity connection in every house.

However I am skeptical of 100% by 2019. Not cos its impossible, but the terrain of Indian subcontinent. Orissa, Chattisgarh, MP have some of the most inaccessible regions filled with mountains and tribal villages. And there is North East too with very difficult topography. Even if we want to give them electricity, we need to transport equipments for installing infrastructure. We need to build roads, bridges etc etc. So we must proceed slowly in somecases. Even if India reach 95% with all accessible villages under electrical connections, then I will be happy.

It's not one house but 10% houses should be electrified to be declared. But it's not the situation anymore.

Now they are targeting every house and there are still about 4.5 crore houses to be electrified.
Real time data is available here. http://garv.gov.in/garv2/dashboard/garv

I had a look at the site. Shows the percentage of Electrified villages in every state. UP and Bihar being large states with less mountain regions. Having less than 50% is toooooo poor. Shows the level of their politicians who are incapable, imbecile, and big mouths. And they fight with each other to become PM. Namely Mulayam, Lalu and Nitish. BJP is also responsible for Bihar as it was in coaliation for 12 years and yet no progress.

We should have leaders from state who have achieved something. Even Naveen Patnaik is disappointing. WB for all its faults has 99% electrification. That's social development. Haryana has 79% and even the so called developed Southern states Karnataka and Telengana hasnt achieved 90% Electrification.

India is as corrupt as Pakistan and continues to have powercuts regularly .

NEW DELHI: With Tuesday's peak power consumption — 6,526 MW at 3.31pm — breaching even Monday's record demand, the highest since 1902, social media and complaint centres filled with hundreds of complaints of power outages across the capital.

On Monday, the peak demand had touched 6,361 MW at 3.06 pm.

Multiple and prolonged power cuts ranging from 1 to 8 hours — some of which lasted the whole night — occurred since Monday evening, even forcing the chief minister to take note of the situation.

Areas like Laxmi Nagar, Janakpuri, Aya Nagar, Chhatarpur, Uttam Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Narela, Jahangirpuri, Burari, Pattparganj and even south Delhi localities like Vasant Vihar, South Extension and Defence Colony reeled under multiple power outages, with people complaining of lacklustre consumer support by the three power distribution companies — BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd.

"In two days we have had 20 power cuts and we spent the whole night without electricity," said Madhav Anand, a resident of Aya Nagar phase-6. A resident of Uttam Nagar, Gaurav Anand, said "All my calls were rejected by the customer care centre even though we faced a power cut for 14 hours at a stretch."

Mitashi Sinha, a resident of South Extension-II, said that they faced frequent power cuts in the locality throughout the day, which collectively lasted for over 5-6 hours.

However, discoms said that there is enough provision to meet the power demand and outages are occurring due to "local faults".

"Due to extreme heat and power demand the electricity network does not get sufficient time to cool down. This, at times, leads to local faults. Another common reason is unprecedented load growth in high power theft areas, which leads to power trip or 'burn out' of distribution equipment," said a power official.

He added that declaration made by the consumers, about required load and about enhancement of load with passage of time is crucial to maintain the distribution network's health and to "ensure quality power at home and office".

A BSES spokesperson said that company has "invested substantial resources to strengthen the network to ensure reliable power supply during upcoming summer months".

"We have even increased the call centre strength by over 150%, besides deploying additional manpower and mobile transformers," he added.

Praveer Sinha, CEO of Tata power, said, "we are working in cooperation with the government and have already increased our call centre and maintenance staff. The problems of outages are arising due to local faults."

Officials from power ministry, however, refused to comment on whether the situation warranted a response from Delhi government but attributed the "stress on the system" for the power outages.

LUCKNOW: With temperatures touching an all-time high, power cuts have made it unbearable for residents of Lucknow.

Even residents of posh areas like Dalibagh Colony have been facing long power cuts for the past three days.

"It is unusual for our colony because it's an officers' colony but there has been no respite from long power cuts for three days," said a resident.

People residing in the colony said they had even sent a tweet to the energy minister and Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (Lesa) but it has not helped.

"We are not even aware if power cuts are because of shutdowns for maintenance or other work," said a resident.

Earlier, power supply was never cut for more than 10 minutes but according to residents, now, power cuts are not only long but also frequent.

The situation is bad in other areas too. "I wake up every night to the whirring sound of the fan each time there is a power cut," said Shyam Gupta of Viraj Khand, Gomtinagar. Coolers and ACs do not work and low voltage makes fans slow.

Lesa puts the blame on enhanced load.

"Every week, there is a load enhancement by 10% to 15%. The major cause of power cuts is increase in load and not shortage of supply. Our transformers are burdened," said a Lesa officer.

Central Government also responsible for the mess because it is the center who provides fund for electrification in villages and congress didn't do much. But the good thing is Piyush goyal is a very capable minister and electrifying India in mission mode, so we can expect them to achieve their target.

Obviously that's not giving results is it ? 8 hour power cuts in Delhi is not a good sign if you have surplus electricity .

Are you out of your mind? I am here sitting in delhi having 24/7 electricity barring some 5-10 minutes cuts every few days.
