Shaikh Mohammad honours martyrs
Shaikh Mohammad attends 38th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces
General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, honoured the sons and families of 10 military martyrs who died while doing their national duty.
Shaikh Mohammad honoured them as he attended a special celebration held to mark the 38th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces at the Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
The event began with the national anthem and a recitation from the Quran, followed by speeches by military commanders and a military display.
Shaikh Mohammad conveyed greetings from President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to the Armed Forces personnel and congratulated them on the glorious occasion. The President praised the efficiency and competence of the Armed Forces in performance and preparedness, reiterating that the Armed Forces are a source of pride for the UAE’s leadership and people.
Lieutenant General Hamad Mohammad Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, gave a speech in which he welcomed Shaikh Mohammad and paid tribute to Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan for his role and sharp vision that led to the unification of the Armed Forces.
“As we celebrate this glorious day, we renew the pledge and loyalty to our wise leadership, and reaffirm or determination to be the nation’s defence shield and always remain loyal soldiers and perform our duty with diligence and determination,” Lt Gen Al Rumaithi said.
Shaikh Mohammad honoured the military jiu-jitsu team for winning medals in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2009-2010.
Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, other shaikhs and senior officials also attended the celebration.
