If he does get appointed (not "rule"), will it give legitimacy to NATO in the eyes of the Islamic countries?

for gods sake, he was minister of foreign affairs once..

and... ?

the prime minister can't speak english, so it does make me wonder.

either way, i don't have any hope, i like him though

I believe Greece can veto this but it's slim chance. France could but wtih sarkozy gone somethings will change in France too it might as well include relationships with Turkey.

I wouldn't say this for tayyeap but Gül is fit for this role. If he becomes next NATO General Secretary i won't be surprised.

No, since Turks are depending on the current political environment kaffirs too, or a Israeli/USA muppet. You see people with conspirancy theories will have them no matter what.
But I don't think that a Turk will ever be the Head of the NATO.

We don't have to speculate or conspirate, it is clear as daylight that NATO countries won't let a Muslim Turk become the head of NATO. You said it yourself.

He asked me about the reputation of the NATO among Islamic countries and I told him no, because it does not matter if a Turk is the head of not.

The reason why I don't think that a Turk will not be on top is in my opinion not because of religion but because some countries and their leaders are to proud to acknowledge that Turkey is growing stronger in many aspects and that the times of Turkey bowing down are over. So they will instead support other countries or other people before they let a Turk be the head.
