London – Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui is calling for public support after suffering a serious violent assault by an inmate at FMC Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas.

On July 30, 2021, CAGE received disturbing reports from her lawyers that Aafia Siddiqui was attacked in her cell by an inmate who had been harassing her for some time, and who smashed a coffee mug filled with scalding hot liquid into her face.

Shocked by the violent assault and in excruciating pain, Dr Siddiqui curled into a fetal position to protect herself. She was unable to get up after the assault and had to be taken out of the cell in a wheelchair.
Dr. Siddiqui has been placed in administrative solitary confinement for an unspecified period of time.

Dr. Siddiqui – also known as the “grey lady of Bagram” was sentenced to 86 years imprisonment for attempted murder after a controversial trial in 2010, during which she accused witnesses of lying.

Her case has been plagued by inconsistencies, contradictory allegations and evidence gathered from torture, to the point that she has been called “the most wronged woman in the world”.

Her lawyer, Marwa Elbially, has been meeting in person with Dr. Siddiqui since January 2021 after several years of silence from her and the US authorities, during which the public and her family questioned whether she was still alive.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui said:
“The fact that I’m not blind is a miracle from Allah.”

Marwa Elbially of Elbially Law Office, PLLC told CAGE:
“During my last visit with Dr. Siddiqui I was shocked to see visible burns around her eyes, an approximately 3 inch scar near her left eye, a wound on her right cheek covered in toothpaste and a small piece of paper, and bruises on her right arm and legs. Moreover, she was in an orange jumpsuit as she had been placed in the administrative unit.
It is important that we receive reassurance that Dr. Siddiqui is not punished for being a victim of a vicious assault and is safe from future attacks.”

Yvonne Ridley, journalist who uncovered the story of Aafia Siddiqui, said:
“This is a serious case of injustice. The alleged crimes occurred in Afghanistan, the US had no jurisdiction to begin with. Aafia is the most wronged woman on the planet.”

Moazem Begg, CAGE Outreach Director, said:
“Aafia Siddiqui’s case remains one of the most troubling in the sordid history of the “War on Terror.” As events in Afghanistan – where so much of Aafia’s case began – unfurl with such speed, we need to ask if Pakistani authorities will seek her repatriation while she’s still alive, or only after she’s in a body bag.
“It is time this chapter of Aafia Siddiqui’s life was closed. She needs to go home and be with the children she never saw grow up.”

. .
Why did Pakistan not request her repatriation back to pakistan when the US approached Pakistan about helping in negotiations with the Taliban.

Because the US wants/wanted Dr. Shakil Afridi, the person whom informed the CIA about OBL's location.

Its tough and unfortunate that she's in that position. Pakistan doesn't hold any cards in negotiating a deal to get her freed & there is no power on this Earth that will let Shakil Afridi get out.

Malala Yousuf is a nobody. She should continue making her meaningless appearances in the West.

I remember we had a chance to bring her back for something but scoudrel mushy asked we need F 16 for that this is why i disgrace from pak as a state who does not care for its citizens

I'm sorry, but Dr. Aafia was flown to the US (from Afghanistan) on 31st July, 2008.

President Musharraf left office on 18th August, 2008.

So, you're trying to say that Musharraf was looking to get F-16's (in 18 Days) when he already knew that he was leaving office.

Look, labelling someone you detest a 'scoundrel' is your provocative. But you can't blame someone for something he didn't have any control or leverage over.

I personally consider Zardari a 'Bhaŕwa', but thats just my opinion. And if memory serves - the ball was in his court to deal with the US regarding the good Doctor.

What do you think?

Very disturbing story

This women's story always sounds very difficult to absorb
The chaos around her does not meets her Education credentials

Story starts with
**Alleged connection , because someone being tortured mentioned her name
**Kidnapping and disappearance with 3 Children
**Some alternating stories about being captured after fake promises to see her children
**Appears in Secret prison in Afghanistan

Mysterious encounter with 3 soldiers vs 1 women and she some how turns into Ninja Assasin , gets shot
  • It is questionable had the shooting incident not happened would she been transported overseas , sometimes in order to get around legal loop hoes (situations are created )
  • If you remove the "alleged shooting" most of the case against her is just "allegations and suspicion"

**Illegally transported out to another country , pretty much kidnapping
**Develop mental issues , still stands trial
** Gets sentenced 82 years

Yet no conclusive evidence or explaination from Pakistani officials

Stuff does not adds up

That was Musharraf's single biggest crime...
He is condemned by Allah forever. Curse him.
IK promised to bring her back but just forgot. He will also pay in time.

.
Where are Musharraf the traitor's groupies, who keep lionizing that coward to this day.
Well let's see what a statesman IK is and what he can do for the repatriation of Aafia. Pakistan is helping US tremendously in this mess they have created and the least the US can do is extend a good will gesture by releasing Dr Siddiqui.

Stop the bullcrap, she was rendered from outside her home in Karachi along with her three kids long before her departure to US from Afghanistan and only after Yvonne Ridely made a hue and cry in the media about the gray lady of Bagram torture chambers. Lo and behold she was found and attacked a US marine for which she received 80 years, not for terrorism.
