Aafia Siddiqui calls for public support after enduring serious assault in Texas prison

.
For me it is some what illogical , a women taking care of 3 children would be an active participant in anything sinister

Then a person is living in Pakistan , with 3 children - in order to stay away from chaos gets kidnapped and brought back to chaos in Afghanistan

When flaws start to emerge in story , once her whereabouts are exposed that she is a ghost prisoner , mysteriously CIA agents have a battle, a mysterious attack story

It is some what proven that CIA uses , right and wrong (sometimes even immoral ethics) in order to complete their designated mission

"Fake story about a battle in Afghanistan quite possible, it is a circumstantial story where the soldiers conveniently shot the lady , and a story orchestrated around it to help transport potential suspect , based on allegations"

Objective was transport a suspect to Oversea location in order to divert any potential media scrutiny drastic measures had to be taken, because normally the lady's story was not even suppose to be discovered, The key point is that the story of a women prisoner was exposed, which caused the people running the illegal prisons to panic and actions had to be taken to protect careers. Someone inside must have exposed the story to media if they felt something odd

Example CIA's work on the darker side
For targeting drug cartel case , They even provided weapon and setup a mini drug distribution network in order to get to their oversea target's trust. The supplies were done thru various illegal channels. They even supplied weaponry to drug cartels for year under pretext of gathering evidence (As discussed in books and movies based on the topic). Similarly , setting up network for kidnapping and crime is also part of organization's focus in order to disrupt other country's government's operations (many past cases)

Back to the original thread topic
The person was not trialed in Pakistan , not a request was made to extradite or share what was the basis for allegation.

Aafia i am sorry sister but they have spent the money they took for you on Persian cats and Afghan hounds.

You chose your faith and Ranjit and Dahir chose theirs.

Allah will protect you

Because the US wants/wanted Dr. Shakil Afridi, the person whom informed the CIA about OBL's location.

Its tough and unfortunate that she's in that position. Pakistan doesn't hold any cards in negotiating a deal to get her freed & there is no power on this Earth that will let Shakil Afridi get out.

ok, so exchange him. he is just a doctor, he isn't like Abdul Qadeer Khan, or some ISI agent who will reveal state secrets, this guy is a just a polio doctor that collaborated with US operatives. At this point, its just ego that is justifying holding him. Imran Khan said he would be willing to exchange, and I think he should make good on the promise.

Well let's see what a statesman IK is and what he can do for the repatriation of Aafia. Pakistan is helping US tremendously in this mess they have created and the least the US can do is extend a good will gesture by releasing Dr Siddiqui.

I'm sure in the list of things Pakistan wants from the US, the release of Aafia Siddiqui is way on the bottom. If Pakistan made a traded Afridi for Siddiqui, it would be a done deal long ago. Trump would have no problem with this deal. On the other hand, Biden doesn't seem as amenable, especially with the Taliban in control.

ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan has lodged a formal complaint with the United States authorities to investigate the assault on Dr Aafia Siddiqui in prison, the foreign office spokesperson said on Saturday.
“We lodged a formal complaint with the relevant US authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure the safety and well-being of Dr Siddiqui,” FO Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said in response to media queries.
“We learnt of an assault on Dr Aafia Siddiqui by a fellow inmate at FMC Carswell on July 30, 2021," he said and added that the embassy in Washington DC, as well as the Consulate General in Houston, immediately took up the matter with the concerned US authorities.

He mentioned that Pakistan’s Consul General in Houston visited Dr Siddiqui immediately to ascertain her well-being. "She had received some minor injuries, but was doing fine."
Zahid said that both the embassy of Pakistan in Washington DC and the consulate in Houston continued to make every effort to ensure that Dr Siddiqui was properly looked after during her incarceration at FMC Carswell.
In 2010, a US federal court in Manhattan had sentenced Dr Aafia Siddiqui to 86 years imprisonment for the attempted murder of US military personnel in Afghanistan. She is serving her sentence at the Federal Medical Centre, Carswell, Fort Worth in Texas.
Incidents of abuse against Dr Siddiqui have been reported in the past as well. In June 2018, a confidential report prepared by Pakistan's consul general in Houston of her visit to Dr Aafia Siddiqui claimed that she was subjected to physical and sexual abuse during her ongoing detention.

The report had recommended diplomatic authorities to take up the case at the highest levels to find a way for her repatriation so that she can serve her remaining sentence in Pakistan, where her modesty and privacy would not be interfered with.
Later that year, Washington had promised to look into the request made by Islamabad to review Dr Siddiqui's detention in view of respecting her human and legal rights.
Pakistan has been raising the issue with the United States on a regular basis. However, no progress has been made in this regard so far.

ISLAMABAD:A confidential report prepared by Pakistan's consul general in Houston, United States of America, of her visit to Dr Aafia Siddiqui claimed that she was subjected to physical and sexual abuse during her ongoing detention.

Consul General Aisha Farooqui visited Aafia at the Federal Medical Center in Carswell, Texas. The report recommends diplomatic authorities to take up the case at the highest levels to find a way for her repatriation so that she can serve her remaining sentence in Pakistan, where her modesty and privacy would not be interfered with.

Aafia's sister Fowzia Siddiqui submitted the report of the consul general's May 23 meeting with her.

The report presents details of the miserable state of Aafia, who is being detained, and details of her struggles to protect her dignity, integrity and respect paint a different picture altogether.

It is recommended that a detailed note be sent to the US Department of Justice for an inquiry into the allegations of physical and sexual abuse Aafia spoke of. CG Farooqui also suggested suggested a formal request to be made to the US Department of Justice to restrict male staff members into her unit and to ensure her safety.

Aafia has accused the male staffer of urinating on her possessions.

CJP to hear petition seeking repatriation of Aafia Siddiqui

"Explore a legal mechanism for her repatriation to Pakistan to complete her sentence in Pakistan, where at least she would be safe and would be able to meet her mother and children, who she has not met in almost eight years," the report further recommends.

During her two-hour meeting, Farooqui stated, she saw Dr Aafia's nervousness and phobias, and fear of everything and everyone at the facility. It was clear that she was afraid of the jail staff, their violations of her privacy, repeatedly confiscation of her things, the rampant threat of physical and sexual abuse and institutionalised rape and bisexuality that she claimed existed at the FMC Carswell.

"For a practising Muslim woman to be incarcerated in a facility where there was an existential threat of being raped and sexually abused repeatedly is an untenable situation and should not be allowed to continue. In spite of all this, I found Dr Aafia determined, hopeful and full of faith in Allah and Pakistani people that there will be help sent for their daughter specially and that sooner rather than later she would get out of the prison," CG Farooqui wrote in the report.

Report further reveals that Aafia has no confidence in the New York-based lawyers engaged by her sister. She requested the consul general to tell her family to replace her legal team as soon as possible.

"In her opinion, only her previous attorney, Tina Foster, could be relied upon as she was sincere and was also Muslim. She was also the one who got her son Ahmed out of the secret prison in Afghanistan."

Aafia also alleged that jail authorities confiscated her belongings. Her phone calls to family members were recorded and monitored. When asked why she did not call her mother in Karachi, Aafia said she didn't feel comfortable talking to her in the presence of the jail staff.

Aafia also expressed mistrust that jail authorities dialed inaccurate phone numbers on purpose. She suspected that it wasn't her mother or family on the other end of the line.

"She repeatedly told me she was constantly disturbed in her room and her privacy was consistently violated by jail staff who harassed her, threatened her and attempted to sexually abuse her as well on a number of occasions. Jail staff, including her case supervisor Annie Noblett, barged into her room, confiscated her belongings and made fun of her and even snatched her scarf off her head," the report read.

"Her belongings were often missing she was of the view that there could be some drugs given to her which made her incoherent and not in her senses like on the three occasions when had visited her previously," CG Farooqui wrote in the report.

Aafia also accused personal assistant to Pakistan's former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani, of siphoning off the $2 million allocated by the government of Pakistan for trial in 2010.

Aafia further described Haqqani as unhelpful and uninterested in her case. She stated that this was public money which had been taken by the two. She further categorically stated unlike the misconceptions about her association with banned organisations, Aafia had little to do with slain al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

About her written submission to the judge for not filing an appeal against her sentence in 2011, Aafia said she did it because she was not expecting justice from the same judge in the appeal, while additionally claiming that her case was "lost in the US Supreme Court" due to the incompetence of her lawyers. She asserted that her trial was a sham.

When CG Farooqui asked Aafia if she would like her mother and sister to visit her, she refused by saying, "Please don't bring them here". Aafia also stated that she tried profusely to stay true to her religion and its practices, but termed her detainment center as severely unhygienic and alleged that she was given unclean materials and detergents.

Aafia also alleged that her case supervisor and two others attempted to rape her in February. The CG also mentioned that Aafia didn't want to be photographed in jail. However, she wrote a short message in Urdu for her mother which is also attached to the report.

Fowzia while submitting the report, lamented that she was extremely upset while reading the report and requested the SC to make it part of the case proceedings.

On June 7, the apex court asked the federal government to find out within three days whether Dr Aafia is still alive or otherwise. According to Fowzia, the government has failed to submit anything in this regard.

On February 3, 2010, a US federal court in New York found Dr Aafia guilty of two counts of attempted murder, armed assault, using and carrying a firearm, and three counts of assault on US officers and employees. She was sentenced to 86 years in prison.

yup, all you keyboard warriors, Gen. Musharraf was the biggest ever "criminal" in Pakistan history. below is a list of some of his many "crimes":
  • saved Pakistan from a looming bankruptcy in the aftermath of ganja pandit's looting spree
  • saved Pakistan from looking like another Afghanistan,Iraq/Syria/Libya
  • set events in motion that enabled the formerly ungovernable ilaqajat e ghair (dens of criminals from not only Pakistan but from every place else in the third world) to become part of KPK
  • kept scaring the crap outa indians until they were aided, comforted and consoled by the pandit birathraan
  • took control of nuclear assets away from the thieving indian and irani sympathizing politicians.

You make a compelling/valid argument.

Yes, technically - he's a nobody.

And yes, it is matter of ego to a certain extent. But let me ask you this..., is there any country that has a bigger ego than the US?

I believe other nations are perhaps entitled to a certain degree of 'ego' (too).

But Pakistan also wants to set an example that if you go behind our back, you will feel the wrath of the Govt. of Pakistan.

I truly sympathize with Dr. Aafia Siddiqi's situation. But there are some things that are out of the hands of the PM too. And there have been a number of Prime Ministers well before Imran Khan whom couldn't strike a deal. Imran Khan said he was willing to exchange, but he most definitely said that to please the general audience. I believe that it could have been done when Trump was in power. But with Biden, you can remove that off the bucket list.

I'm sorry, but Dr. Aafia was flown to the US (from Afghanistan) on 31st July, 2008.

President Musharraf left office on 18th August, 2008.

So, you're trying to say that Musharraf was looking to get F-16's (in 18 Days) when he already knew that he was leaving office.

Look, labelling someone you detest a 'scoundrel' is your provocative. But you can't blame someone for something he didn't have any control or leverage over.

I personally consider Zardari a 'Bhaŕwa', but thats just my opinion. And if memory serves - the ball was in his court to deal with the US regarding the good Doctor.

What do you think?

You have wrong info take a look again she was definately handed over by mushy than sent to begram

.
I'm no fan of Musharraf but he was no where as bad as the Sharif or Bhutto/Zardari clans who have raped the country for the last forty years. Oddly enough those barking against Musharraf are the same ones who turn around and do sajda in front of the Sharifs.
