E=MC2 is a different story. It's part of basic theoretical physics now, can be proved with vigorous math and observed by experiments (nuke is one of them).

But these freaks at CERN they don't even know what they are going to end up having. Their current dumb strategy is basically modelled from a monkey: poke it, and see what happens.

Thats exactly how Einstein got E=MC2, didnt he? Was he a monkey too? Nah, he was their descendant! And so are we all.
Oh yes, the nerds at CERN do know what they are talking about. Infact E-MC2 is actually not possible if we cannot get hold of this "God Particle" - the Higgs Boson particle.
All our present day physics and its laws governing nature rest on the theory that its this Higgs-Boson particle which is responsible for 'Mass' in an atom. Its existence has been proved without a doubt, but only in theories. And yet it eludes us in practice!
You see, this is a very interesting conundrum. The discovery of existence of Higgs Boson particle will validate all the physics laws as we know them today. If CERN cannot find this particle then all hose laws of Physics developed by scientists over the centuries are wrong and cannot be justified, including the famous E=MC2!!
I think the quest for the Theory of Everything - the holy grail of Physics rests on the discovery of this tiny particle!
As for the irrational fear of Black Holes, they happen all the time in our Universe, including in the Earths atmosphere. Such Black Holes have also occurred in Physics labs. However, their existence is but for a mere thousandth or hundredth of a second and are not a threat unless scientists find a way to nourish them by feeding them with matter!

Lol, considering all the spices that we Indians eat I wouldn't be surprised if people find tiny smelly black holes are created behind me everytime I eat curry!
BTW, its an irrational fear manifested in the layman, religious nutcases and undereducated people who believe the LHC is a harbinger of Doom! These halfbrains know nothing about what happens.

The winter equinox on 21st Dec 2012 is supposed to see our solar system in alignment with the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy we are in - and there after it goes into the opposite hemisphere - of course WarProf you wish to take the natural ride that this earth has to offer us on her back - we do not have any other choice either - What if it does not go its normal course, instead at the equatorial plane of the Galaxy - what if it is sucked up in Stargates and Quantum holes that may take us right to the center of the Galaxy into the Black Hole or beyond.
The Universe is not as queer as we think - It is queerer than we can think.

time is something that is calculated from earth's rotation and revolution....it is just a mathematical eqation that man invented to measure the ageing process.......its not a physical quantity like temperature , volume etc.....so time basically cannot be manipulated like temperature -say you can change the temperature of a object and then bring it back to the same temperature.....this is not possible with time .....so the idea of time travel is bs

It is thought that there are other Realities with differing definitions of TIME.

IF, and that's a big if, they don't find the Higgs Boson, then Physics and its laws as we know it today stand nullified! It is really hard to digest this fact because, we know that all these laws work and can be used to explain various phenomena that we observe.
So if these laws work then for all intents and purposes this Higgs-Boson particle MUST exist. This is the particle which gives mass and subsequently is responsible for mass in matter!

If not then we are doomed and will witness the births and works of totally new Keplars, Newtons, Einsteins, Hawkings etc (the second coming of the Prophets/Messiahs?)!

However, the LHC is only one step towards proving the existence of this particle. If the LHC fails, they will build a bigger one (there was supposed to be a bigger Collider to be built in Texas but Congress withdrew funding! Morons!) till they find the particle. Inspite of all these efforts, if the existence of this particle cannot be proven practically then laws will be re-written to reflect the new reality, which I seriously doubt!

dieing in a black hole would be something diffrent. when under the gravitational influence of a black hole the whole body will get enlongated first because of the diffrence of gravity between foot and head and then the molecules and atoms of the body would be ripped apart before ending into black hole. and guess what anyways you ended up inside alive you will be blided with the light beacuse that is supposed to be the brightiest place because the light has never reflected back. SO the black hole is the brightest place in the whole of universe from inside.

I know it's contrary to "normal" thinking, but so is the two-slit experiment, which anyone can observe - and everything in quantum physics is built up from there. We know a lot more than we did even a generation ago. Specifically, physicists know that cause and effect aren't quite what they seem - causality can be violated if something was going to happen anyway, and influence is possible as long as the result is still random. The Higgs needs a lot of energy to collapse to an observable, so under "normal" conditions its wavefunction is widely spread through space - and time.

Basically, the point is this: if an unbound Higgs boson is abhorrent to nature, that means not even one will ever be created in the entire lifetime of the universe. You might think it could be done, but the fact the universe exists as currently known means otherwise.

This happens because we don't really have a unified theory of everything yet. When we do what will happen, as happened with Einstein, is that "normal" experience becomes a special case of the Big Theory, which will explain (or at least describe) why things work the way they do, just as the development of quantum physics explained how we avoid the "ultraviolet catastrophe".

clearly this machine will start up and run, as the particles it creates will travel back in time and cripple itself in our current time, which we have now fixed and is preparing to run, question is will this only run once? as, if it ran again it will then create more particles that travel back in time which should have cripple the machine yet again. that means after this times first full energy firing the machine will break down again then we will fix it fire it again then it will break down again. its gonna be an expensive trip...

Pakistani team part of Big Bang experiment

Around 27 Pakistani scientists and technicians took part in the flawless start to the ‘Big Bang’ experiment that will re-enact the first moments of the universe.

‘Fifteen physicists, ten engineers, five Lasers and Opto-electronics experts, six computer professionals and six students from National Centre for Physics (NCP) and Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) are involved in the experiment and this opportunity provided them with an immense learning opportunity,’ said Dr. Riazuddin, Former Director General NCP while briefing the media on the contribution of Pakistani scientists in Big Bang experiment.

Riazuddin said five Pakistani scientists were present during the Big Bang experiment including Dr. Jamila Bashir Butt, Hassan Shahzad, Taimur Khurshid, Saleh Muhammad and Muhammad Ahmad while nine others were involved at different junctures.

The data of the experiment will be available for the Pakistani scientists and results will be accumulated afterwards by the Pakistan physicists, he added.

According to Riazuddin the team contributed in the construction of components of CMS detector, which consist of assembling and testing of 288 Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC's) with 46,000 channels involving front end electronics. They were also engaged in physics analysis involving advanced computing for CMS data production and infrastructure for LCG Node at NCP.

The PAEC assembled carbon frames for the detector outer barrel at a cost which is approximately a third of the European cost, he said and added that the parts are sent from CERN, they are assembled in Pakistan and are sent to Fermi Lab, USA where the front end electronics are added and shipped to CERN for final integration into rods.

‘Pakistani staff in CERN, on jigs designed by Pakistan, then tested these rods. It is gratifying to note that in recognition of PAEC's contribution, quality of work and adherence to schedule, in 2006, CERN awarded PAEC Best Suppliers Award,’ he said.

‘Working in an international environment with people from many diverse backgrounds was enlightening in its own right; but here it was the logical decision making methods backed by impeccable theory and empirical data that rubbed off (hopefully) to all those who worked there. It has certainly been satisfying for Pakistan to have contributed in a small way in this great enterprise,’ Riazuddin said.
