just wondering why the Indian soldiers were not equipped with riot gears. I mean for melee fighting like these, riot gears like the shields carried by Chinese soldiers are expected to be put for use?

They did have riot gear with them, just search earlier photos and videos posted on this forum several months ago. You need to make a search (with much effect).

Chinese surely know how to cook a curry, let it simmer for a while, then add more spices and turn up the heat.

Indians brought riot gear. And after the battle, the Indians gave the equipment to the Chinese in a friendly way.

This is Chinese weakness. Mercy and graciousness to indians is a huge mistake. They should have beaten these indians to death.
