Front line Chinese troops are issued the latest mass deployed weapons and are generally well armed. This group is composed of around 800,000 regular troops. They are the first deployed in any large scale combat situation and average 21 years old with at least 3 years in the military. While in the past the ground troops were generally poorly educated and armed this has changed rapidly in the past years. New recruits are now selected generally from college educated youth and unskilled ground troops have been retired in mass.

Armor:

Armor is not widely distributed for ground troops but many models exist and are in service. There are many reason that it is not widely equipped primarily cost. Other reasons are that the PLA is expected to fight professional military forces armed with primarily 5.56, or 5.45 high velocity small diameter rounds which do more damage with body armor added.

There are many models of body armor available when needed however.

This is the most common the Type 06 body armor

It uses hard plates of a unknown composition to stop high velocity rounds like 5.56, 5.45, and 5.8 rounds

Certain branches also prefer their own armor the marine commandos with their quick detach armor

Firearms:

The standard firearm of any Chinese soldier is the QBZ 95, a bull pup small caliber weapon. It fire the 5.8 mm DPB 88 round. This bullet is steel tipped and has lacquered steel casing. The decision the use steel instead of copper was again a budgetary concern. The performance of the 5.8 mm round in the QBZ 95 is somewhere between the m 16 and m4 in range and ballistic property. However its penetration is higher due to its steel tipped rounds.

most soldiers use it without sights but commonly seen are the 4x sights

Other sights include thermals, holographic, red dot, and etc. Genade launcher vary greatly and suppessors are optional

The type 05 sub machine gun.

The type 05 uses a quad stacked magazine and holds 50 5.8mm sub machine gun rounds. It generally has an attached suppressor and has a rail for sights

The QBB 95 Squad automatic weapon

The QBB 95 holds 75 rounds of 5.8mm heavy rounds. Its similar look to the QBZ 95 makes this less of a target for enemies.
