The cyclorotors are so much more elegant and practical, are said to tolerate cross winds better than the "drone" type craft and of course can be made so much more safer than these guillotine machines.

The 'fully self driving' they bosting about is a hoax... Still remember those clowns boasting about Tesla's vision camera based dinosaur 'self-driving' technology, which is already a joke compared to our LADAR based tech. They thought LADAR is too expensive but didn't expect we can make LADAR as cheap as cabbage now. Even the budget EVs such as the Xpeng P5, etc. are equipped with multiple LADARs for true self-driving. You can get the model equiped with 2 LADARs for less than 30,000 USD:

Note, hands around the wheel for testing is required by law.

That Xpeng P5 3.5 system is also still in BETA by the company and right now the date is "sometime in 2022" (vaporware) for actual buyers to see it.

Meanwhile there's multiple threads here on PDF showing Tesla owners posting daily videos of their car driving with the FSD BETA on local roads.

As Elon Musk has stated the issue with LIDAR is NOT the expense. If you are going to replicate a vision system like human's use (we don't shoot lasers out of our eyes) there is no reason to rely on LIDAR. All it does is make you take shortcuts in your camera's abilities which in the long term is not what you want.

He said he expects ALL companies to eventually ditch LIDAR as their vision systems get better.

The problem is people like you don't understand that LIDAR is not going to tell you if it is about to rain or if there is a traffic jam 300 yards further down the road. An advanced vision system can. If a vision system needs to be able to handle that then why shouldn't it also figure out something 60 feet infront of you? He's saying why even waste your time integrating a short distance LIDAR system when eventually your vision system will be doing that.

I'm sure if you lived in France 110 years ago you'd be joining the chorus of people saying the Wright Brother's plane is a complete fraud as it is simply impossible for a man to fly in a machine.

They had to haul it over to France to be believed.

BTW MobileEye in Israel only uses cameras..
