What's new

A counter challenge!

Moderate Islamic card of Jinnah was fine and indeed, understandable.

Not virulent sabre swishing with head lopped off!

Or else why is the world so worried about Pakistani madrssas.

Why are the Saudis madrassas not in the picture and they are Salafis and strict Moslems, who take no nonsense!

That is tangential to the claim of "the Muhajir played the Islam card", which does not make sense to me as I indicated, unless you can provide some more information regarding what exactly that means.

Why the violence right now?

Poverty, war, drugs, weapons galore, ungoverned regions left to their own PLUS an uncompromising ideology that provides a "moral and religious" justification to the continuation of a "warrior's life".

Better men than I have attempted to answer. There is no simple explanation - a fantastic confluence of events, culture, religion - and as catalyst - the struggle of two superpowers.

Musharraf played the Islamic card???????

Are you meaning the Q League or the King's Party?

At best Musharraf is running with the hares and hunting with the hounds.

Can't blame him, really, given the chaos he is presiding over!

Nothing from Road Runner?

No, I meant "the Muhajir"(community) in the piece you posted - that they played the "Islam card".

What would a rootless and alienated people do to show they are a part and parcel of the new country?

I am sure you are not a refugee and so you won't understand what it is to be rootless.

Try travelling to a town where you know none.

It is a helpless situation.

You know nowhere to go and nowhere to ask anyone for anything.

The Mohajirs, being educated and clever, realised that regionalism would leave them no place in Pakistan politics, which they were controlling (Jinnah was a Mohajir and technically a heretic since he married a non Moslem i.e. a Parsi), pulled out Islam as a all embracing card and as the be all and end all of Pakistan! Obviously, none could challenge that!

The idea was to have Pakistan as a "homeland for Muslims", so the "Islam card" was inherent to the situation, not devised by the Muhajir. All the immigrants had to do was show up, and while humanity is capable of the most heinous acts, as evidenced by the slaughter of so many by both sides during the event, it is also capable of great magnanimity, as evidenced by the embrace, without prodding and "playing of cards", of the immigrants to Pakistan.

Once accepted as Muslims, the "card" had been "played" already. Any further use of Islam was most probably by all parties involved, to continue to build a cohesive identity of a nation that never existed before.

ok first of all the mohajir thing. i am mohajir but i dont think of myself that way my best friend is punjabi. so the hostility thing doesnt hold a lot of power. the army in pakistan is a merit based institution if not so then musharraf would never have become army chief. the islamic millitancy does not have that much of support in pakistan.

The reason Saudi madrassas or others all over the Muslim world are not in the picture is because output from these Madrassas was not militarized to fight our neighborhood communists.

Saudis are where Salafis are - the fountainhead of Islam.

How come Saudi madrassas are not blamed and instead Pakistani madrassas are?

All because Pakistani madrassa are militarised?

So Pakistan is militant Islam?

Is that what you are suggesting?

Not so.

Jinnah, the Father of Pakistan, thought otherwise and he should know better!

I would rather believe that Jinnah was clear about what Pakistan should be than anyone else!

Salim,
Quaid-e-Azam was not a mohajir he was from Karachi.

You asked what is MQM.MQM stands for Mutahida Qaumi Movement means United National Movement there is no discrimination in Pakistan there might be some differences but as you can see that MQM is in Government and according to democracy it is ruling the mohajir dominant areas.my half family lives in Punjab and half in Sindh I am a mohajir and I know when my family migrated from India it was Punjab and Sindh that welcomed us as I have said before that we might have few differences amongst us but at the end of the day we all are Pakistanis and Mr.Altaf Hussain also always say this.

also a Islamic state provides more rights to minorities than a secular state so we are proud that Pakistan is a Islamic state

Er...with that I would have to strongly disagree.

Both in theory and in practice, this is totally false.

Have u ever heard of Hindu-Muslim or Muslim-Sikh or Muslim-Christian clash in Pakistan?
This is what our religion teaches us.
